hp all in one 23 " question

i jsut got a used hp pavilion all in one pc and i can't get the keyboard or mouse to work. it has new batteries and installed correctly. i can get a different mouse using the usb dongle, i'm leaning on the one showed up and they did not put the usb dongles in with the keyboard and mouse. so if that is the case and i need those is there a way to get find out if the keyboard is actually on and a way to get another usb dongle to attach to these parts so i can use them? or might i be SOL and have to just get new keyboard and mouse?

i'm thinking they failed to tell me at the goodwill about it not having all the parts to use it. i can use the on screen keyboard but i want to go into the bios and insert my reset usb drive and put a new operating system on it as it now has the home version and it is a 64 bit machine i have the win10 pro to install but not using the mouse and screen keyboard it may not work as i can't get into the startup bios settings to change the start drives.

so if there is a way to use the mouse to get into the startup bios that may help some but getting the original mouse and keyboard is what i have to get working.

i can't even find the version, i can see the devices and it show the keyboard and mouse as hid devices but i can't get it to connect both the mouse and keyboard show as hid devices, i can delete them and they come back. unless this pc does not need the usb dongles?

anyone here happen to know for sure before i email goodwill and bitch them out for not sending me all the parts

    thanks

Look on the back of the AIO Computer and see if there is a dongle. If there is a dongle, be sure to change the batteries on the wireless mouse and keyboard, if no dongle,
Go back to any Goodwill store with a computer area/dept and buy USB wired Mouse and Keyboard. Or better yet, buy a brand new set online, or at Walmart, Target, or Best Buy etc.
If you still want to use the wireless stuff, look for a brand name and or model # on them (ie) Logitech, etc and search for the dongles on Ebay. But this will cost more then a wired set, and almost as much as a new wireless set.

The easiest way to settle this question is look for the HP Model # on the bottom of the keyboard. Then you can look up if this part has a matching dongle (which you don't have?).

ok i tired but the site will not let the question go thru because i have adb on my pc but i did turn it off to the site. so my guess is i need a dongle as i see most keyboards on the site show dongles. so i have an older keyboard and will just use that with an adapter the is keyboard to usb thanks. and learn a lesson on getting thingd from goodwill from now one. it takes forever to get questions answered form most of the goodwill sites

    Hi

you dont need to get into Bios to upgrade from Home to Pro, all you need is the Key

Settings >>> Activation >>> Change product key

yes but is will be so much easier if i had a keyboard to do this with. i did as the hp community about this. when i get the keyboard going i will change out the hd from the wifes laptop into this unit as hers is an ssd so it will be much faster. i also just put in 8gb of ram from the 6 it had to help that out for speed also. and whn i get it running i will see if it is win11 ready, i kind of doubt it but for now she will have a larger screen to at least see the thing. thanks

If you had the keyboard's model #, it is possible to search eBay for folks selling just the dongle. It happens, some users lose the dongle when selling the keyboard -- or end up with just the dongle.

That's why reporting the keyboard's part # here, someone will tell you what to look for online. Unfortunately, HP made at least 3 models of wireless keyboard/mouse sets.

thanks what i did was i found an older keyboard that has the round plug and then went to ebay and found an adapter that fits that round keyboard plug and then fits the pc usb port and will see if that works when i get the adapter.
thanks for that idea it may come in handy if that adapter fails.

if anyone happens to know if they do make a universal keyboard and mouse dongle that may help or ifit is possible to adjust the keyboard and mouse to accept different dongles?

    thanks

No, they're specific by model. Otherwise they would just build the receiver into the PC or laptop, and not need any adapter.
