    A keyboard with a round plug is, at least, 20 years old. The adapter probably cost you half the price of a new keyboard that you buy almost everywhere (Bestbuy, Walmart etc)

    Find a bootable flash drive with free space and a working Windows computer.

    Download and install onto the flash drive:

    https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp147...0/sp147126.exe

    Move the bootable flash drive to the problematic computer and see if you can boot to the flash drive by repetitively clicking F9.

    Run the HP bootable HP UEFI hardware diagnostics overnight while sleeping > system > extensive > loop until error > the next dy if there ws two mor more loops > click esc > take pictures displaying the tests performed with results > post images or share links into this thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive > click component tests > run each keyboard and mouse as needed (interactive tests) > post images into this thred

    i got the adapter for 1.00$ and i have a bootable flash drive but i can't get into the bios without the keyboard. the moause does not kick in until the machine is at least half booted. i tired my flash drive but thispc is not setup to boot from the flash drives not one of them i tried all of them.

    that sure looks like it thanks, maybe it has some setup instructions in that link i will check, i checked and did not see anything about how the keyboard and mouse connect, so they must be with a dongle and more than likely the people at that goodwill place i got this from just did not know what those were and tossed them.

    i have a few dongles and i tried using the connect buttons on the keyboard and mouse and neither would connect to any of those dongles, so i will just use the wired mouse from the laptop and that older keyboard with the adapter if that adapter works for that old keyboard. if not i will get a new keyboard from walmart as suggested here and be done with it. but first i will see if that adapter works.
