    Mouse stopped working

Hi, I have an HP laptop, windows 10. The mouse stopped working off and on and now barely works at all. I switched to other mice, tried other usb ports, updated the drivers etc. nothing works. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Hello, welcome to tenforums. Just wondering - do you use a mousemat? Sometimes mice used on the surface without a pad can have dodgy input. Eventually - if the surface gets too dirty the signal could even completely cut out. I understand this is unlikely but definitely worth checking out. Also, num lock can stop the mouse from working. This doesn't explain the slow dying out of course however. Also - you haven't made it clear, but are you using a dongle mouse or wired one? If it is dongle make sure it is fully charged etc...

    Hope it helps

    Mouse stopped working

Thank you James. I have been using the laptop while on my recliner chair and have the mouse on the arm of the chair and no, I haven't used a mouse mat. I didn't think it mattered. I use a wired mouse and I also have a wireless. Both are intermittent on and off. I'll use one now and hope that's all it is.
    Thank you
    Ray

The surface is all important. For example, I'm travelling. A piece of white paper in a clear plastic envelope serves as temporary mouse mat. A plain hard white surface doesn't. Nor does a plain white sheet of paper. The light from the mouse needs to reflect from a surface and provide evidence of movement in the changes made.

    Does the touchpad work?

The touch pad does work. I have been using a mouse pad but still, working intermittently

I don't think the "arm" of a recliner qualifies as a reliable surface, with or without a mouse pad.
Does your mouse work on say... a flat table surface with a mouse pad?

Try a different USB port... and check Device Manager for driver issues.

That almost sounds like a dad joke - mat, mattered.

If you boot to Safe Mode, do you see any difference?

And is at least one of the mice you've tried a wired mouse rather than e.g. Bluetooth?
