Switching from NVIDIA and INTEL to AMD

Considering switching since i want to upgrade anyways to make use of raytracing which really seems to look great.

My current mainboard the Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero uses the 1151 socket and ATX Z390 chipset, none of the recent AMD cpus seem to fit into that, are there semi-recent amd cpus that are compatible? I have zero experience with amd.

My current monitor the Asus PG279Q supports gsync which works fine with my GTX1080Ti.
The 1080Ti is a good card but not capable of raytracing, so i tought about buying and amd gpu.
For example the AMD radeon 7900XT looks interesting and costs a bit more than the 1080Ti back the days.
The 7900XT also has 20GB vram where the nvidia cards really seem outdated right now with the high prices and low vram.
If i buy this card, will i also need to get a new monitor?
The PG279Q doesn't mention freesync anywhere in the technical details page.
If i keep this monitor might there be screentearing? I would probably need to use vsync since the 7900XT doesn't support gsync and the PG279Q doesn't support freesync.
When i sell the monitor which one should i get then? Is it better to wait? I've heared about the quality of oled / qled monitors and that they look much better than IPS / TN / VA panels.
I care more about quality instead of performance but to get good quality you obviously need performance, a monitor with 240hz+ and 2k or 4k resolution would be great.

AMD CPUs will not fit an Intel motherboard. No way. No how. You will have to buy a new motherboard if you want to switch to an AMD chip.

As far as the GPU is concerned, I used AMD cards for years and they always underperformed. I finally went Nvidia last year (I have an RTX 3070 ti)and I am not going back. I'm getting triple the frame rates that I used to get, and it does ray tracing.

May I suggest an Nvidia 4080, or if you have the money, the 4090? In all of the benchmarks I have seen, these two cards totally blow away the competition, though owners of the 7900XT may differ with me on this point.

You can compare pretty much any card you like, and as you can see in the link I provided, the 4080 does outperform the 7900XT in most of the important areas.

As for a monitor, get a 4K if you like, though most games will run sluggishly at 4K. It looks nice though, but be prepared to set your magnification to 150% or you won't be able to read anything. lol

G-sync and Freesync are compatible. The monitor won't say Freesync because its a G-sync monitor.

RTX is not really as big as it sounds its a niche system atm and still in its infancy. I would not really buy a card atm just for RTX as its not really widely adopted in gaming yet, it still has some time to go before its industry standard and the norm.

The only reason to get newer cards is to make use of the newer tech like DLSS and Bar and the newer compute cores and other tech etc. Which some of this support you won't be able to do on 1151.

Sorry its 4am here i was thinking of 1156 when typing, just buy a card and put it on.

We have only seen 3 gens so far so its still pretty young.

How is the Asus ROG Maximus XI Hero an intel mainboard? Tought asus is the manufacturer since their name is in the title of the product.

I won't pay greedy nvidia twice the money they should get, no not with me, that's just stupid.
4090 is totally overkill beyond any logic and the 4080 would be a good card if they didn't put that disgusting price.
Price and value seem far better with amd, also amd cards are more compatible with linux from what i've heared.

I know userbenchmark and have already checked some tests.

So, i've i buy an amd graphicscard and my monitor clearly states that it uses the gsync module, i will still be able to use freesync on that gsync monitor?!

Ofcourse raytracing is not the norm yet and it will probably take a while before it is, it doesn't have to be the norm to use it now.
I expect newer titles to support it more and more, even on minecraft it works today.
I say that because when i want raytracing this suggest already i'll be playing those games which support raytracing otherwise wouldn't make sense to buy such a gpu. CSGO:2 also looks like will be supporting raytracing and it's one of the games i play most so it makes sense, i want the visual bonus. When i already play this game many times a week why not make it look better.

PS; i don't need a new GPU to use upscaling technology.. not a buy reason.
The best example is a plague tale requiem, the game supports DLSS and i have an NvidiaGTX1080Ti which doesn't support DLSS.
So what? Blame nvidia for not supporting older models? Or, just download a mod from nexusmods which changes the DLSS to AMD Fidelity Super Resolution and use that with my 1080Ti, guess what i went from 40 to playable 70 FPS with quality as good as native.
The fact that nvidia want's me to buy a new card because uh oh old gpu doesn't support DLSS but hold on, AMD the competition brought me free FSR, lol, give nvidia the finger and buy amd.

So any mainboard that is compatible with intel is also incompatible with amd and vise versa?
Are you saying that all gsync monitors are freesync compatible?
