Can't seem to create a full partition on new drive?
I ordered a WD Purple 4TB drive to use as the main storage drive in my security camera server but I cannot seem to get it setup properly. I installed it in an external USB caddy I have on another computer and allocated the whole drive as one large partition. It performed a quick format and it seemed to look good. I removed my old storage drive in my security server and installed the new drive in its place. Now, when I go to Administrative tools, Computer Management, Storage, I see the disk listed there as Disk 1, but it shows two partitions. One is 2048GB, and it says Healthy GPT Protective Partition, and the remaining portion of the drive is 1678GB and says unallocated. Again, I can't do anything with it.
I tried going in through an elevated command prompt and using diskpart to delete the partitions and setup everything from there. When I select the appropriate disk and partition and try to delete it, I get a blinking prompt for about ten seconds and it acts like it's doing something, then I get "DiskPart has encountered an error: The request is not supported. See the System Event Log for more information." I do not know where to find the System Event Log and I don't know why I'm having such trouble with what seems like such a simple task. I've done this dozens of times over the years without issue. I'm using Windows 10 Version 22H2 (OS Build 19045.2846)
Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong or what my problem may be?
