Laptop adapter and battery

Hello! I've been having a problem with my laptop. The model is ASUS N56VZ , and it's an old computer but good enough for me to check my email and do some work stuff. I haven't been using it lately, so I assumed that the removable battery was getting old. Then just used the cord to plug into the wall and used it without removable battery for quite a while until recently it started shutting down again even without battery inside. When the adaptor isn't plugged into the laptop, it's green light on the adaptor is on as soon as I plug into my Laptop, then light goes off and laptop shuts off. I was wondering what causes this issue? Is it my PC adapter that needs to be replaced or do I need to get a new battery replaced?"

Do both of the batteries need to be replaced, or just the power cord?

Again see my previous post. There is only one battery that tuns the laptop and you have deduced what the issue is.

Your description makes me think the power adapter needs to be replaced.

If you are content to always use mains power then you can skip replacing the battery. I've never heard of a laptop that cannot run without a battery in it. You might usefully read the manual, search the Asus support site or search the Asus user forums [if they have them] to get confirmation of that.

Totally agree.
If for some reason the battery charger led turns off, the problem is on the charger.

Once my aunt gave me her laptop to see if I could fix it with the same issue OP has.
I opened the charger (a difficult task as parts are glued) and noticed that the inlet connector pins soldered to the board were with broken solder due to twisting the cable when inserting in and removing out. Heating the solder with a soldering iron fixed the problem.

Always check the specs of your laptop (voltage and amperage) against the ones described on your charter, check if the power adapter you have currently, provides enough v and amps, check if it's the right charger.

Yes, batteries die and need replacement; yes, chargers can also fail and need replacement, BUT, sometimes random users for whatever reasons end up with the wrong adapter failing to charge the batteries or just failing to keep your laptop on.
