Tell Device Manager not to install AMD SATA Controller...?

Finally I upgraded my old desktop from W7 to W10, not very pleasant...

Apparently, the AMD SATA Controller is not compatible with W10 and will not be made so, instead AMD tells us to roll back the driver to use the Microsoft provided Standard SATA AHCI Controller https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-250 So I did this. But now, whenever I ask Device Manager to check for an updated driver, it insists on installing the outdated AMD SATA Controller.

Is there any way to tell W10 Device Manager to not do this, but instead check for updates of the currently installed driver?

Tell Windows to not allow install of any drivers during updates. You will still get them if you do a upgrade or move to next version Windows OS's.

I realize now that I expressed myself unclearly. I do not really want to stop W10 from updating the driver, I want to stop W10 from updating to the AMD SATA Controller, which it for some reason considers to be an update of the MS provided Standard SATA AHCI Controller, even though AMD themselves say that it is not compatible (wouldn't MS know this?).

With the AMD SATA Controller I get DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD now and then. With the MS Standard SATA AHCI Controller I have not (yet) seen any BSOD. But the standard driver I rolled back to is dated 06-06-21, and I'm guessing there is a more recent version, and it is this one that I want Device Manager to update to.

Hm... maybe the best thing is to simply stop updates of this driver, and then manually manage this...

I think you need Windows Update Minitool. Check for drivers, select unwanted.. Hide them. All in easy graphic environment
