It's possible that the issue is related to the file system or partition scheme used on the drives, or it could be related to the formatting of the drives. Here are some steps you could try to troubleshoot the issue:

Check the file system and partition scheme: Make sure that both drives are formatted with the same file system (such as NTFS or exFAT) and partition scheme (such as MBR or GPT). If they are different, this could cause compatibility issues with the Oppo player. You can check these settings by right-clicking on the drive in Windows and selecting "Properties," then going to the "Tools" tab and clicking on "Check" under "Error checking."

Reset the Oppo player: Try resetting the Oppo player to its default settings, as this can sometimes resolve issues with detecting external drives. To do this, go to the player's settings menu and look for an option to reset or restore to factory settings.

Update firmware: Check to see if there are any firmware updates available for the Oppo player, as these can sometimes improve compatibility with external drives. You can usually find firmware updates on the manufacturer's website.

Test the drives on a different device: If possible, try connecting the drives to a different device (such as another media player or a different computer) to see if they are detected. If they work on another device, then the issue may be with the Oppo player itself.

Contact manufacturer support: If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to contact the manufacturer's support team for further assistance. They may be able to provide more specific troubleshooting steps or offer a warranty repair or replacement if the device is faulty.

It's still unclear what is causing these errors. It should be noted other full drives much older have no issues. The only common theme is the process of unplugging the drive from the Oppo BD player and connecting it to a PC so I can add additional files.

Yesterday a different drive connected to the 105D also stop being recognized by either player.

I'm going to buy two more 8tb drives from Best Buy today and look into seeing either of these are under warranty.

Just for the record the are no additional firmware updates for the Oppo's and I can't even know for sure anything is even defective with the drives. It seems like something in the file structure becomes incompatible with the Oppo's but is a non-issue with computers. One time I successfully reformatted a drive and it became readable by the Oppo's. The 2nd time failed. Yesterday I even did a long format which also failed.

Any ideas on how better format the drives? Perhaps deleting the drive and reallocating the space, I'm trying it now.

    That failed too.
