I continue to get bsod's - this morning an unexpected store exception again. I was advised to update my chipset. I went to Dell site and one was listed as critical - an Intel chipset. I downloaded it and when I ran as administrator and opened it, this is what it said. I do not know what this means -- can someone explain pls. Thank you.
The installer gives you two options, either completely removing the driver and support files or repairing any missing or corrupt files.
Since your previous post mentioned system issues and this was listed as an update from your manufacturer, I would choose to Repair Errors. This should replace all files with fresh copies and will hopefully solve the issues your having.
Chipset drivers tell the OS what hardware you have and the best way to talk to it (ie. can it take more than one thread at a times, how long is the best set of instructions to send, etc.)

After it crashed while installing twice, the second time when I rebooted it said it was repairing drive C - I then rebooted and ran as administrator the Intel chipset. This time it succeeded. Do you think that may cure the bsod's? Thanks for your help.
What the first option, "Removes the product from your computer", may have been saying was it wanted to remove the old driver before reinstalling the new one. Sometimes that is necessary instead of repairing it.
In any case nobody can say whether your computer is fixed now. As the saying goes...only time will tell.
The chipset driver failure and the issues you were having suggest you have a drive that maybe it's failing.
I suggest you backup your data
Do you have a HDD or a SSD?
Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
chkdsk c: /scan
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks, bad clusters, bad sectors etc

Already failing? Gad. -- we must have appliances in our life - i.e. stoves, refrigerators, tv's -- they must work because most people can't fix them. PC's have become the new must have appliance in our life and they fail miserably in the reliability world. And many people can't fix them. They are as necessary as the two aforementioned but are just not as reliable. Seven months and failing - hmmm. Looks ok in that scan? Maybe not failing? That scan would indicate if so, correct? Thanks.
The problem may have been caused by a Windows update. Windows updates are known to do that. The solution is to update the driver as Intel prompted you to do. Sometimes doing that has problems maybe even crashing during the process. If you still have a problem then I suggest you try the first option and uninstall the old driver first. When that is done install the new driver.
BTW, I have had home computers for over 40 years. They have all crashed at one time or another. 99% of the time it was a software problem. If the software crashed while data was being written then the computer had to repair the disk during the next boot. No big deal it is just part of having a computer. Note the disk corruption was very rarely a disk failure problem. It was merely a software problem that required software to fix it.

As MisterEd mentioned, most of the computer problems are software corruption on the main drive, normally due to a hard shutdown.
Thanks guys. Appreciate all of your input. So the drive is ok - it's all about software or updates or some other small malfeasance. (evil-doing)... hope it all holds together for a while.
