Will anything bad happen if you use a long thermal pad sticker

If you want to buy a heatsink for a Samsung 980 pro which will be put in an Alienware laptop then the heatsink could come with a long thermal pad sticker which I think is 0.5mm thick.

The problem with the design of Samsung 980 pro is that the nand chips on the left are taller than the controller chips on the right. Thus if you use a long thermal pad sticker which is 0.5mm thick then there will be a small gap between the controller chips and the thermal pad sticker. Stop your Samsung NVMe SSD from Overheating and Thermal Throttling - YouTube shows you what I mean. Thus the controller chips won't transfer heat to the thermal pad sticker because of this gap.

The correct thing to do is to use two short thermal pad stickers: one sticker is 0.5mm thick and it will be on the nand chips and one sticker is 1mm thick and it will be on the controller chips. I want to ask can anything bad happen if you use a long thermal pad sticker which is 0.5mm thick?

Yes, that would increase the temperature of the controller chip due to the air gap and reduction in air circulating on those chips.
