Hello, maybe a silly question, how are you powering the drive?

The jumper you can just remove it or put in the cable select position 1-2. You will need an externally powered USB caddy/enclosure for IDE (PATA) drives. These should still be available.

I have used one with the exact same WD IDE drive from my old PC. Then you will probably have to take ownership of the contents, this I recall takes some time with a lot of Folders/Files. Then you can just copy stuff off.

Yes it's my bad, I mixed it up with SATA.

Anyway. It is powered by an AC adapter, so it should be running without problem.

I got LINUX up running and it appeared in the file browser, tried different bracket settings, however it appears only as 0 bytes.

Should I suppose it is dead since I cannot reach it?

Is there a reason why you are using Linux? Windows should have no problem with it.

Well.... it was suggested as a solution previously, since it did in fact show up in Windows but with 0 bytes.

The cable should work, the AC is plugged in to the HDD, but I guess the HDD itself might be damaged beyond repair, or at least with the tools I use.

Download this program and check the health of the drive. I gave an example in post #10.
