    I'm now finding speccy reports my motherboard as 115 degs centigrade. But a large number of people say speccy often reports this as on ASUS mobos and is probably an error.

    How can I check this using other software or with my bios settings ?

    The PC has worked perfectly for a week since I used a whole can of air spray on it
    I use Open Hardware Monitor
    Extract to C:\Program Files (x86)\HardwareMonitor and run openhardwaremonitor.exe
    Under options you can set to start with Windows and you can configure what to show in tray and on the gadget. Very good

    How about using an IR thermometer to see what component temps. are? How about directing a small fan at the open case?
    what is an IR thermometer ?

    I want to put the case back on and fix the problem mate, I've looked around the web and it seems speccy often delivers faulty temperature results.

    Hello @NE5,

    I don't know if this helps, but it will give you the temperature of the CPU. It is an extract from my Script in my signature.

    Copy & Paste the following ALL at once into a CMD Prompt and press Enter.

    Code:

    @echo off
    PowerShell ^
         $List=(Get-CimInstance -Namespace root/wmi -ClassName MsAcpi_ThermalZoneTemperature ^| Where {$_.Active -Match 'True' -And $_.CurrentTemperature -ne 2732}  ^| Sort-Object -Property InstanceName ^| Select -Property $_.CurrentTemperature ^| Select-Object ^
         @{L='Current CPU Temperature';E={'{0:n0} C [Converted from ''Kelvin * 10'' to ''Celsius'']' -f (($_.CurrentTemperature - 2732) / 10.0)}} ^| ^
    Format-List ^| Out-String -Width 1000).Trim("""`r`n"""); ^
         if ($List.Length) {Write-Host """`n`n$List"""}

    echo. & echo ^>Press ANY key to EXIT . . . & pause >nul & Exit

    I hope this helps.

    Infrared thermometer. Probably don't want to spend the $30+ if you don't have access to one. It's what the medical offices used to check your temperature during Covid. I have had one for years as it's useful for checking temps. of things quickly. The fan suggestion was just to see if increased airflow would alter the CPU temps any. Did the CPU clocking get messed with somehow? Unlikely, but if its being overclocked, that would cause overheating.

    What link? Open Hardware Monitor?

    Guarantee it's a false positive.

    yes, from the link Megahertz gave me. Needless to say, I didn't run it, but i was very surprised to see it throw up a red warning.

    I suppose now I've rechecked it and had 2 good readings from 2 sites, I can possibly think my mobo is not overheating after all. Do you agree, or is there anything else I could do.

    The PC has been perfectly fine since I dusted it out, there was some in there among the fan etc.
