In the video he changes the hdd without disconnecting it from the motherboard, I did it recently and I ripped the hdd cable from the hdd connector side, I had to buy an hdd cable. It's fragile.
Disconnect before the hdd on the motherboard. If it's like on my dell you have to lift (it slides up without being able to be removed) the plastic thing where the hdd is connected, then the cable is free and you can remove it from the motherboard. Then you can unscrew the support/caddy from the hdd with a magnetic screwdriver, and then gently disconnect the black connector from the hdd. Repeat all the steps in reverse to replace it.

I found on ebay a connector cable for the reference of my laptop fortunately I was desperate.
You have to force more or less to remove the black connector from the hdd, that's why the cable can tear. This is why it is preferable to have the caddy and the hdd well in hand, removed from the laptop, to disconnect the black connector.
The grip of the connector is also not ideal.

Thanks again!
I work on a lot of old equipment ... most of the time parts are no longer available (old tractors ... engines ....)
My first rule is to not do more damage or break parts with fixing something.
When I replaced the battery last week was the first time I have ever taken a laptop apart.
I really appreciate the advice!

Hey!
Just wanted to thank everyone for the help.
I put the 1 TB into the machine ... loaded it with 32 GB of RAM.
Installation of Windows went smooth (followed your instructions).
Super quick machine !!!!!!!!!!
This is honestly the fastest machine I have ever had .... not bad for 5 years old!
Thanks so much again !!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry ... one more question ...
My wife is paralyzed from the shoulders down as the result of a diving accident when she was 12
She can use her arms but not her hands.
She uses typing splints.
The touch pad on this unit does not have "real" buttons. If you press on the bottom left and right areas of the touch pad, you click the right and left buttons.
The problem is if you use a typing splint (like pressing on it with a pencil) it does not trigger. If I use my finger, it does.
Is there a setting that will let the buttons activate when pressed but not touched (so if I press them with a pencil ... I can feel them "click"... they will activate)?
Thanks again !
Mike
Laptops usually runs hot. Sometimes on the limit. Any temperature should never go higher than 80șC.
The problem is that the small heat sink gets clogged with dust and temperatures goes very high, sometimes shutting down the computer to protect the CPU.
I have installed a small application, OpenHardwareMonitor.
Extract to C:\Program Files (x86)\HardwareMonitor and run OpenHardwareMonitor.exe
Under options you can set to run on startup.
You can configure what to show on the gadget on on the tray.
Very good.
