    Anyone Still Favour Touchpad?

Hi all, This is a sort of complicated issue related to the touchpad of my laptop, ACER SF315-512-52TY (Windows 10 Pro 22H2 19045.2486).

My touchpad refuses to respond to my action of three-finger or four-finger gestures FROM TIME TO TIME. In other words, most of the time the touchpad runs flawlessly, but every once in in a while (about once ot twice a week, lasting one or two minutes each time) when I use three-finger or four-finger gestures, the cursor on the screen moves as if there were one finger in touch with the trackpad (but actually I am using three fingers to swipe right on the touchpad, meaning switching between tasks by default settings). After a while (no more than 3 minutes), the touchpad recovers to the perfect status and I can use these gestures again...

I have thought about and have also ruled out the possiblities of normal imcompatibilites between stuff like Syntaptics, Elan, but normal solutions to Syntaptics or Elan are for those touchpads that is not supporting Precision Touchapd whatsoever. However, mine touchpad does support Precision Touchpad 'softwarely' and 'hardwarely' from factory. So that is where things go tricky. The thing is that, again, three-finger and four-finger gestures accidentally fail to work from time to time, which annoys me from time to time accordingly :-(.

I hope I have got my meaning across to you all. I will be thankful if there are any related comments.

    Start > Settings > Devices >Touchpad

Have you tried to change the sensitivity?

    Maybe something here..
    Just a moment...

I don't so much favor touchpad as mostly gotten used to it. Would rather plug in USB mouse but that's not always practical on some surfaces.

Thank you for your comment. In my view, that is not the real cause.

As far as my understanding of the 'Sensitivity' goes, it affects the amount of pause (amount of time) before the upper part of the touchpad returns to normal, usable state after the last key-in of the in-built keyboard. That may sound a bit confusing but let me explain to you. The logic behind this 'sensitivity' is that, for one reason or another, people using the in-built keyboard will more likely make part of their hands (such as the root of the thumbs) contact the upper part of the touchpad, thus causing unnecessary clicking of the cursor. Therefore, to tackle this annoyance, the setting of 'sensitivity' came into being that, again, creates a certain spell of time (from about 0.5 to no more than 2 seconds?), during which the upper part of the touchpad will not respond to clicking motion, according to the settings (very, high, medium, low sensitivity), leaving the lower part of the touchpad unaffected because people are thought to be less likely to touch the lower part of the touchpad by accident. The 'sensitivity' baffled me for quite a period of time (partly due to this is not clearly explained by Windows official) before I figured it out myself (and I had been wondering if I had bought a defective laptop lol).

So, I think it is not that relevant to my issue but thank you for reminding me of the 'sensitivity'.

The USB mouse really spares people troubles~ I want to see how mad my buggy touchpad can drive me, though (I'm a glutton for punishment).

Go to the Acer support site and install any Bios update.
Go to the Acer support site and install any updated drivers of any kind.
If those steps do not fix it, delete the touchpad's entry in Device manager then let Device mgr re-detect the touchpad & re-install it.
If it is still a problem, try SFC.
If it is still a problem, undo all your gestures, reboot then set them up again.
If it is still a problem, create a new user for test purposes and see if it has the problem.

    Best of luck,

Thank you for your methods (in ascending order of aggressiveness) I'll consider them starting from the mildest approach (I don't want to lose so much customised settings that I have done to my laptop though).

Make a new system image before you start so you'll lose nothing.

None of my suggestions are aggressive apart from resetting your gestures and you can quickly save the info by taking a few screenshots of that part of the interface [Settings, Devices, Touchpad].

I have used ThinkPads since the 1, and I have always, always hated the touchpad. I turn it off as soon as possible after the OOBE.

I like that the ThinkPads I have bought have always had a pointing stick between the keys G and H. That's why I have always used ThinkPads, including when I was an employee and when I was a consultant who had to buy his own gear.
