    western digital enterprise hdd

I recently purchased a western digital 3.5 internal hard and want to use it as an external hdd. When i connect the drive to my computer it makes the tone saying it is there but not visible to me to open.

Can you SEE it in Disk Management?
You may have to create a partition on it and give it a drive letter.
Right click it, format it, create a partition, and give it a drive letter, then you should be able to see it in File Explorer.

You have to initialize the drive as MBR or GPT (recommended), create a partition or partitions and format them as NTFS or eFat (to be compatible with MAC).
You can do it with Disk Manager (C:\Windows\System32\diskmgmt.msc)

What Megahertz said. If using a Win/MAC ecosystem your best bet is ExFAT.
