    Has my HDD truly failed?

It's been a couple of years since I got this external HDD.

When I plug it in, it's not initialized, it's not detected. But when I go to Disk Management, I can see it's there. But when I try to initialize it, Windows gives me an EM saying 'Incorrect function' or sth like that

When I touch the HDD when it's plugged into my computer, i can feel it spinning.

has this external HDD truly failed?

Type? Make? If it's in a caddy, try it in a different one. If you have the option, try a different cable and port.

    It's a VERBATIM external HDD 3.0

I tried to plug it into another computer with another cable, same thing happened.

You can see if Hard Disk Sentinel says anything about it, but it may not be able to 'see' it for exactly the same reason Windows can't.

    E.g. giveaway:

Please always post exact error messages where possible.
That helps Google... and of course you can search with that message yourself.

I'm using AOMEI Partition Assistant PRO and it's still at 0% after clicking on Partition REecovery Wizard

That's not a disk diagnostic program. HDS is. But of course it's indicative of a failure of some kind.

Disk Sentinel isn't free. It keeps asking me to register.

Thank you very much for your comment.

Someone else couldn''t cope with that free offer recently either. Ghot had to help them extensively after I posted it.

Otherwise if that doesn't work for you, as I've said many many times it's a full functional trial.

I've also posted giveaways for it several times. One (Ghot said a couple of days ago) is still valid.

Can I somehow recover the content of this failed HDD?

@jumanji usually denies being an expert in data recovery although many members here think he is.
