    Computer making strange sounds when turning on


    I have the system sound scheme set to "no sounds" in the sounds control applet yet randomly my laptop will make strange beeping noises sometimes on startup. It sounds like it is coming from an internal motherboard speaker as it still does it when disabling all sound related devices. WTH??

    My laptop is an MSI Crosshair 15

    Beeps at power-on usually are a signal by the motherboard that there's a hardware problem.
    The number and length of the beeps indicate what the problem most likely is.
    For details, consult the owner's manual for your computer.

    You can find lists of 'BIOS' beep codes on line- you just need to know which 'BIOS' you have. E.g.

    Normally startup beeps are due to memory check. It can also be that the CPU fan isn't running.
