HP Omen Gaming Laptop battery life

    Hello All

Ran HPs F2 Startup Diagnostics, Battery passed fine, but some reason in Windows 10 Home only get about an hour of battery time, doing very light tasks--web browsing or email checking mostly.

Is this Normal? or is battery test wrong in HPs startup diagnostics, and soon its gonna need shop replaced, as i can't even get the thing open myself

My screwdriver worked fine on all other 9 screws, but 10th one wouldn't budge

Yes HP battery care is on as recommended by Startup Diagnostics

any other advice or tips in this matter appreciated

You could ask other HP Omen users for their battery experiences in the HP user forum.
    https://h30434.www3.hp.com/

You can obtain a measure of the amount of battery degradation, the ratio of Last full charge to Design capacity, by running a battery report.
Run and interpret a battery report - my post #2 - TenForums

You could take it to a computer repair shop to get your last screw loosened.

    All the best,
    Denis

Going by your specs listed in System 2 it is 5/6 years old which means that battery capacity will have been reduced. Typically ~50% of the capacity when new.

    "Is this Normal? "
Yes. A gaming Laptop is designed for performance, that uses more power and hence shorter battery life. Battery capacity reduces over the years.

You can go through a whole range of settings to reduce power consumption, some of which will reduce performance.

    Hello @AMDMan2016,

If you wanted some information about your Battery, Copy & Paste the following [ ALL at once ] into a CMD Prompt and press Enter.

    Code:

Removed. Probably NOT needed as the OP performed a 'Clean Install'.

The above is an extract from my PROJECT: Computer Report - Comprehensive in my signature.

    I hope this helps.

That battery appears to be unused.

If it only gives you a small portion of the time that it used to then I'd say it had a physical defect.
If it's always only been only about an hour then I'd say it was in perfect condition.

Used to be approximately 2-3 hours depending on what was doing.

It's been used off and on over the years, somedays 2-3 hours on battery, and then rest on AC Power, or if i knew i was gonna game that day when i loaded it up, then that day started on AC power, then later if needed to be portable would be on battery for a little bit

Gonna ask in HP Omen forum shortly here for further advice, and then getting to local PC shop and getting it replaced probably sometime soon here, and then should last a while longer hopefully. Primary uses of This Gaming Laptop is backup to Gaming Desktop, used the most when Desktop was down due to hardware issue or was getting rebuilt/upgraded.

    You may try manually calibrating the battery;

Will Give Manually Calibrating a shot,

Just finished up a Clean Windows 10 22H2 Install a few hours ago, reconfiguring bunch of programs, freeded up alot of Space though 39.8GB Free to Now 78.7GB Free with 90 percent of Software reinstalled thus far.

alot more to do, but gonna do a base system image soon before i install anymore, then on with the rest of the installs probably after dinner

Let us know how manual calibration goes.

If after manual calibration you do not see any improvement, another quick way to check batteries on laptops is with the tool BatteryInfoView.

I use this tool when I suspect there is a problem with a used laptops battery.

BatteryInfoView - View battery information on laptops / netbooks

If you could download this, no installation necessary just unzip and run, let me know what it reports as the "Battery Health".

If it shows as 100%, unless the laptop is brand new, I have found from good experience with used laptops that if you already suspect there is a problem with the battery, and this tool reports 100%, it is very likely there is indeed a problem with the battery. Couldn't give you a reason why, but as I say this has just been my experience.
