Dell for years did not have any BIOS recovery at all. If a BIOS was corrupted the only option was to replace the motherboard. I've been on the Dell forums since 2002 and saw all the frustration and complaints.

If Dell would use stock ATX boards, like some other PC companies, there would be dual BIOS. But Dell uses proprietary boards and even on some proprietary implementation of Intel chipsets (and proprietary and undocumented front panel case connections).

Installed the new one and updated the BIOS to the previous revision (i.e. before 1.1.27).

    Everything is OK now.
What is hard to accept is that Dell released a corrupted BIOS. You were lucky that they replaced the MB.

    I mean business!

The flawed BIOS update has now been pulled form their servers.

    I'm done with Dell.

I have bricked some motherboards in my time with a Bios update. Most motherboards offer a complete bios backup and restore function.

I personally won't touch a Dell or HP, and the like, computers as they use proprietary parts that are not usually user serviceable. But to be unable to recover a corrupt bios is inexcusable imo.

So, the replacement motherboard didn't work at all? You might need to reactive win10 after a Motherboard swap out too ( something to bear in mind ). If the system is totally bricked I would put in a RMA for a replacement system as the Dell bios seem to be the culprit.

As a side note, bios updates should always be done within the bios environment and outside of windows. In my experience, updating a bios within windows is asking for trouble.

Totally agree. Unfortunately some OEM computers (HP, Dell etc) provide BIOS updates as executable files. In this cases I save the executable file to a USB drive, boot from a Win 10 installation drive, open a CMD window (Shift+F10) and execute the BIOS update on the USB drive.

    Hi.

One the BIOS is totally wiped/corrupted, that's it.
You can try a USB restore procedure but if the BIOS is truly bricked...

Had to swap out the MB for me and all is well.

    Update -

I received an update that BIOS 1.1.28 is now available.
I'm going to defer a bit and see what the feedback is.

My trust in DELL is forever lost.
