    Laptop Batteries

    Hi,

Not strictly a Win10 question. I'm in the UK and was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions as to a reputable replacement battery outlet. I'm always wary about purchasing electrical goods online, but I need a few replacement batteries and I'm unable to find a known reliable source. Some of the equipment is quite old.

    Thanks

    Matt

I had to do this for a ten year old laptop a couple of years ago. I bought it off of eBay [ Compatible Battery because it was far cheaper]. When it arrived I just attached it and it charged to 100% without any problems and is still going strong today.

I have just looked through my eBay purchase history but it must have been just before the first available entry.

I am sure that I still have the box and paperwork somewhere so I will have a look for it tomorrow and get back to you. You never know, they may have the one[s] that you are after !

    I hope this helps.

    Matt,

Amazon [but only Amazon marketplace if the battery is 'Fulfilled by Amazon' because Amazon then accepts the responsibilities of a retailer for refunds]
    Laptops&Spares

Even for Amazon itself, I filter search results:-
    - 4 start and above only
and only open the product page for
    - At least 100 reviews [because Which magazine found that fraudsters were paying for up to 100 fake reviews]
then I check the remaining shortlisted product pages
    - No more than 10% of ratings at 1 star or 2 star level.

Over the years I've been very pleased with the service offered by laptopbatteries.co.uk.

Not only usually cheaper than competitors but I like that the website offers more technical information about each battery than others, a decent warranty and a compatibility guarantee.

Conversely, I personally would never risk buying a laptop battery via eBay... but that's just me.

    Hope this helps...

    Thanks for your advice.

It's actually the physical risk rather than the financial that I'm concerned with.

Has anyone used or know about battery.uk.com ? They seem to have what I want (which includes old PDA batteries). but I don't want to risk it without knowing a little about them.

I don't know how HP works, but on the Dell forums we see a lot of problems with aftermarket or fake Dell OEM batteries. Most Dell's sense what battery is installed and many won't charge a non-Dell OEM battery.

We see fake OEM"s, the case has been opened and poor quality batteries installed in a Dell OEM battery case and then sold as a Dell OEM battery. Some of the fakes will charge but don't last very long.

    Matt,

I used to buy cheap third-party batteries for my Dell Inspirons 9300, 1545 and never had a problem.

For my Dell Inspiron 7779, I took care to get a 'genuine' Dell battery because it has to be fitted internally & that made me want to be more careful. That was third-party supplied but was 'Fulfilled by Amazon'.
I had previously spent six months trying to buy the battery from Dell but they proved to be a bunch of hopeless liars. I lost count of the number of broken promises to take action on the subject & the number of calls that mysteriously got dropped as they allegedly transferred me from one department to another.

I've seen complaints from UK customers. (I'm not a Dell employee).

For genuine Dell parts, Parts-People are who we refer to.

I know you do good work in the Dell forum but please don't bracket together "aftermarket" & "fake". They are not the same thing.

And UpgradeOptions, who are in some way partnering Dell UK. It was them that Dell UK support eventually fobbed me off onto.

    All the best,

By "aftermarket" I was referring to non-Dell branded. "Aftermarket" in the US commonly refers to non OEM parts.
