Windows 10 - Internal Floppy Drive not recognized

    Hi -
I've been searching for quite a while and have not found a solution to my problem. I have a Win 10 desktop with an internal old-style floppy drive (parallel cable, etc.) that I noticed will no longer be recognized within Win 10.

    Here is what I know:
    Running Windows 10 PRO 10.0.19044
UEFI properly configured to enable Floppy controller
Able to boot from Floppy to DOS
Within Windows Device Manager, the Floppy controller is present but NOT the floppy drive
Floppy drive does not show up within Disk Manager (as expected)
I have another Floppy drive (USB style) and it works flawlessly.

The only reason that I need to use the internal floppy is that I have an old legacy project which will require this internal drive, otherwise I would use the USB floppy. I haven't used the internal floppy in several years and never noticed that it had stopped working. Only recently have I run across this issue.
I suspect that Windows has disabled the floppy drive for security reasons but I don't have any data to support this theory. Does anyone have a clue how to resolve the problem?

    Thanks
    Jim

Might have to turn off Secure Boot in the BIOS, I had to just this morning on a ladies computer to boot to an ODD Diagnostic disc.

Thanks. My system is about 10yrs old and secure boot is not even supported. System runs great and I'm having trouble upgrading.

    Jim,

Does it have a yellow warning triangle on its icon in Device manager?
Is it in the Other devices section? This section's name is a euphemism for no driver installed and, if there are no problem devices, the section itself does not appear.

If it worked in Windows 7/8 then I suggest installing the driver you used then.

No, I see nothing in the Device Manager that warns me of a bad/uninstalled driver. No yellow indicators.

Looking online I discovered that the the flpydisk.sys file should exist in the \System32\drivers folder. Which it does, but I do not see that it was ever gets loaded.

Not sure how to proceed. Thanks for everyone's advice.

    Update:
Turned on boot logging and checked the boot file and found that flpydisk.sys is never loaded. Not sure what to do to get this to load as the driver resides in the driver directory.

Might want to just buy a new one. Triple check the connectors and specs...

That was my initial thought also. However, I substituted another working floppy drive and it wouldn't work either. I then set the UEFI to boot from the floppy, used a Win 98 boot disk and the floppy/controller worked just fine. So, I am confident my hardware is functional.

I suggested a new floppy because the new floppies may have a different firmware.
Something more compatible with Windows 10 and 11.
You seem to have checked everything else.

I'm just guessing though. Might want to call IBM or TEAC and ask.

    /edit

Another option might be to use the USB floppy and create an ISO of whatever is on the floppy, then... MOUNT it.
Kind of like what we do with CDs these days. Sort of a virtual floppy.

Again, I'm just guessing cause I don't really know what you're trying to do, or why it has to be an internal floppy.
