    Question about BIOS update

I have a Inspiron 3580 that received an error code - x000000e when trying to reboot.
I have unable to restore Win 10 on this PC and have been trying to install Linux. I can use Linux but, I have to use the USB (with Linux) pluged in to do so. If I unplug the USB, all I get when trying start is the Dell image showing for a few seconds and the power light goes off for a few seconds and the Dell image comes up again in the same loop.

Question - I just installed a Inspiron Vostro BIOS update for my Inspiron 3480 that also for the 3580. Is there a way that I could get this update to run on the 3580 so I can install Linux?

    Thanks for any help!

Since the error does not point you to an actual hardware device or a missing system file, you'll need to perform one or all the troubleshooting steps to fix the issue.

Use the Windows Automatic Repair Tool.
Rebuild the BCD file and the Master Boot Record.
Reset the BIOS to its default settings.
Check and change the CMOS battery.

In this video, i will guide you on how to repair Master Boot Record (MBR), Boot Sector and BCD Store on Windows 10 or Windows 11.

    FreeBooter -

    Thanks for the reply.

I'm at the stage now that when I try to start the PC, I get the start of loop of The Dell image for a few seconds and then the PC screen goes black and the power light goes off. After about 5 seconds the Dell image starts again and the loop starts again.

I can click F12 when the Dell image starts and the BIOS change Boot Mode shows with a few choices.
There is a BIOS Setup and a BIOS Flash Update with others.

I have no idea what or how to go forward.

Can you boot your computer with Windows 10 installation media?

I would say that your main drive is corrupted or even dead.
Boot from a Win 10 USB drive and on the first screen press shift+F10 to open a CMD window.
    Run:
    diskpart
list vol (identify the windows partition letter)
    exit
chkdsk x: /f (replace x with the windows partition letter)

One point I agree with, if the computer boots to the Linux LiveUSB Thumb drive it is working, I use the process frequently in diagnosing whether the problem is with Windows or hardware. The LiveUSB and the LiveDVD contain a program called GPARTED [GNU Partition Editor], it's useful for checking a drive, even for completely cleaning a drive to start over.

I'm not too sure about the

part, Dell makes different models of their Notebooks, I have Inspirons, Latitudes and a Vostro [only one that will run Win11] Notebooks and they may have different BIOSes in them.

Also, be sure to use the Service Tag on the computer or in its BIOS to download the correct file from Dell Support.

Why don't you go to the Dell support website and look for BIOS update instructions there?

On Dell's website is a JCV file which you should be able to use with the BIOS recover feature in BIOS settings to upgrade/recover the BIOS without using an operating system.

Here's some information about how to do it:
