    Logitech keyboard inconsistent connectivity

    Logitech k520 keyboard.

Has anyone experienced random wireless connectivity loss with this or other Logitech units. It's not a battery issue.

When I first experienced it, I tried toggling the power button on and off, and selecting different keys.

Here's the odd part. I noticed that when selecting the "Caps lock" key, the on/off light on the key did not illuminate at first, but if I continued to click it, after about 7-10 times. the light went on which indicated that connectivity was restored.

This has happened on more that one of these keyboards. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the usb receiver is responsible. The mouse was unaffected.

Five years ago I built a new computer with a Logitech MK550 Keyboard/Mouse Combo.
    • Logitech K350 keyboard
    • Logitech M510 mouse

The mouse worked OK but the keyboard was intermittent. Sometime I had to hit a key ten times before I got a response. The dongle works at 2.4 GHz so I figured it was getting interference. A little searching pointed to two possible sources for the problem.
    1. The USB dongle was plugged into a USB 3.0 port. Someone said USB 3.0 can cause interference with 2.4 GHz.
    2. Some of my wireless devices use the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band. There could be interference from that.

Not knowing what to believe I took measures to counter both:
    1. I Plugged the USB dongle into a USB 2.0 port
    2. I Moved all of the wireless device that could from the 2.4GHz band to the 5GHz band

The result was a big reduction in the intermittent problems the keyboard was having. Not perfect but at least the keyboard was usable now.

I can't say what I did will help you. All I can say is give a try.

    Hi MisterEd,

I'm gratified to receive your response. After dealing with this for quite some time, I didn't really expect to get one. Our collective symptoms aren't a mere coincidence.

I've taken your advice. Receiver moved to 2.0, and I switched from 2.4GHz band to the 5GHz band in the Device Manager.

You said "Moved all of the wireless device that could". I'm not sure what you mean. Can you expand on that?

Some computers and other wireless device can work on either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band. They could be assigned to either band automatically based on technical reasons. To force them onto the 5GHz band I configured my router to have separate SSIDs for the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands. I then connected each device to the SSID of the 5GHz band. Each device would then remember this and automatically connect to the 5GHz band when it was powered on. Some devices could only work on the 2.4GHz band. I had no choice but to let them connect to the SSID of the 2.4GHz band. I only have two old computers that work on the 2.4GHz band. I don't use them very often so they aren't much of a problem. My wireless printer only works on the 2.4GHz band. It only gets occasional use so is not a problem.

Has anything you tried helped with your keyboard?

BTW, other equipment also works on the 2.4GHz band and can cause interference. An example is the microwave oven.

A microwave oven? I'm guessing you're referring to wi-fi devices that are and controlled by a home manager? I don't have one, but I'm curious. In that scenario, you would create 2 ssid's, both of which would be displayed in your "networks" list, and each device would be logged into the network that applies to the appropriate band?

You mean from the changes you suggested? No disconnections so far, but given the random nature, I'll just have to wait and see.

In my past experiences, things got worse over time, which is hard to explain, but in the current iteration, before I posted here, it hasn't been quite as frequent, but the thing is I'm still using the same mouse and keyboard versions.

It's strange to me that the mouse is unaffected, but I am encouraged by the change to the 5GHz band and the USB to 2.0.

Router configured with a separate SSID for each band. Note I have a WiFI 6E router that has 3 bands.
