    Overly Sensitive/Quirky Mouse

As the title states, my mouse has begun to act overly sensitive and quirky; e.g., requiring me to place the cursor on the exact spot, before opening whatever I'm trying to open. I now have to try clicking on something three or four times, before finding the exact "sweet" spot where it will finally open something.

At other times, it will not easily allow me to highlight text, but rather making me try four or five times before it finally does work.
If I try highlighting a word, for example, it might begin to highlight it, but suddenly stop halfway through as I am dragging the cursor along the word.

Then, at still other times, the crazy thing works just fine!

So far, I have tried the following:

    a. Updating my mouse driver, but I get the message that the driver I am currently using is the best one.
    b. Going to Settings>Devices>Mouse>Additional Mouse Options/Buttons/Pointer Options/Snap to/Troubleshoot My Mouse and playing/changing all of those settings....all to no avail.

I am using Windows 10, version 21H2 on a laptop with Logitech M535 bluetooth mouse.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you need to find out if it's a mouse problem or a Windows problem.
I suggest you get a USB mouse and see how that behaves.

Does another user have the same problem?

    Best of luck,

    @Rayzen

I recommend this mouse for spare/testing purposes...

    Amazon.com

    Robot or human?

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/logitec...?skuId=1147528

That's the mouse I use as my main mouse. I usually buy them 2-3 at a time, just in case.

    Quirky Mouse

So you're saying to try another mouse to see if it's a Windows problem?

Yep. That's the easiest way to troubleshoot a problem like this.

I would uninstall any Logitech software and drivers then install the latest update from Logitech's site. Also check the mouse sensitivity settings in Settings.

    Yes.

And check whether the problem affects other users. That will also help with diagnosis.

Put in a new AA battery...

If it has leaked, clean the battery contacts.

I have an M535 Bluetooth mouse, also various standard USB wheel mice, the Logitech B100, M90, HP X1200.

All are standard drivers, just plug 'em in and they work. Always have one in your spares box.

Agreed on the battery, wonky actions can indicate a dying battery. The use of a Wired USB mouse for testing is also good. With my Notebooks I keep a Bluetooth mouse with them if supported, otherwise use a Wireless USB mouse. Of note with the Wireless USB is the transceiver/dongle that comes with them can't be used with a different mouse except maybe the Unifying type such as comes with a keyboard/mouse kit. Then there's the type of surface a mouse is used on, has to have some texture so the laser in it can see movement. The texture is not the roughness of the grain as on wood but tiny lines in the coloring or printing on it, the white top of appliances won't do it.

What driver are you using for the mouse?

If you just turn on the mouse and let it connect then Windows could/will install a generic Windows driver.
If the Logitech mouse came with it's own driver then you'd want to be sure you are running on that. And sometimes, particularly with USB devices, those drivers need to be installed before you connect the device (to avoid the Windows driver being installed).
