It may be necessary (an oddity) to format the hdd from a windows usb install media, maybe even install windows on this hdd to unlock this oddity.
edit: Do this with the hdd connected to the motherboard.

I know this thread is old, but I had the same issue which is now solved.
After doing some mods to my computer and updating the bios, and all of a sudden one of my 14TB WD White Label storage drives stopped showing up in Win10 (as well as not showing in the bios.) Figured it had simply died, but for fun, put it into my Sabrent dock, and viola, it worked just fine.
After much troubleshooting, found the following article. This solution worked for me.

It appears that Western Digital (and possibly Seagate too) have encoded their external drives to prevent them from being shucked and deployed internally. Hope this helps if you too experienced this issue. Cheers!
