1TB SSDs were prohibitively expensive just a few years ago. The chips get denser and the price gets lower every year, but the spinners keep up the pace too. A 10 or 16TB spinner was sci-fi just a few years ago too.
But magnetic tech is running up against some serious limitations, and barring a 10 platter unit that is 3 inches tall, I'm concerned that more and more of these ultra large spinners will be SMR by default.
That's why my "server" PC has 6 spinners in it. A place to use all my old WD blacks. Good thing I got the big power supply way back when!
