Failure to read install USB device

    I am running windows 10 pro. Version 21h2 19044.1766
New laptop HP AMD Ryzen 3 3250U processor 8gig RAM 256 GB SSD storage
I created rescue media on a usb for Macrium Reflect. After reboot and getting to F9 I select the usb and the HP logo comes up but fails or stops no error msg. I tried the media on a pc same processor and it loads fime and comes up with macrium reflect.
this new laptop has no cd/dvd so you have to use usb.
also will not load install install media from a usb.
only advice so far is to disable secure boot. and use Legacy?

    Hi there.

Format the USB Flash Rescue Drive and re-create it again in Macrium Reflect.
Use the Macrium Rescue Media Builder - Windows RE (wim).

Look under Advanced and ensure that the Wi-Fi options are enabled and proceed to build.
Once done successfully, see if it detects it in the Boot Selection screen.

    Post back and advise.

    Thanks.

    Hi.

What USB Flash drive are you trying to use? Name, capacity?
Generally, a 1 GB Flash will do just fine.

Try this on the USB Flash first:

    Open an elevated command prompt.
Then insert the unusable USB Flash Drive.

Now enter these commands one at a time - go slow!

    Diskpart
    List disk
Select Disk Number - (Make sure it's the USB Flash! Look at the capacity!) - i.e. Select disk 3
    Clean
    Convert mbr
    Create partition primary
    Format fs=exfat quick
    Assign
    Exit

Check File Explorer - the USB Flash Drive should be present with partial or full capacity.
If so, go into Macrium and try creating the Bootable Rescue Media.

    Post back, thanks.

    disk part ok
    list disk drive 2 14 gig+
    selected 2
    clean ok
convert mbr OK showed mbr file explorer appeared to put a disk in dr. E
    create partition primary OK
    format fs=exfat quick OK
    assign sucess drive F
I check wifi and they were checked. removable usb San Disk 3.2 gen F - 14.32gig. multi boot(mbr/uefi) recommended for this device. then got a msg usb flash drive requires formatting existing data will be lost confirm + OK to proceed finished.
I then I then restarted the laptop G9 choice usb harddrive(uefi)-usb then the HP logo came up and I waited and typed this to you and afterover 10 minutes it loaded and right now the screen is open for either image or file and folder GREAT instructions!
would you now I should try and use a usb with windows 10 on it to see if I can do a clean all???

Are you now booted into the Macrium RE environment?
If so, do you have an image to restore?

    I'm a bit confused.

Good morning Compumind; Yes it did boot up to macrium rescue and I did locate my last image and folders backups. I did not go further as I did want to re install windows 10 clean to be sure that all worked. Do I need to follow the instructions you gave me to prepare a usb to be used for the media creation tool download? I usually just format and use the defaults fat32.

    Hi.

You can reformat it if you like, (not required) then go into Macrium and the create the Windows RE Bootable Rescue Media to restore the image. Under Advanced select all Wi-Fi options.
Make sure that you have backed up all data since the old one was created, onto another device for continued restoration.

    Post back and advise.

Do you mean you installed your Macrium Backup Image?
