    Sony Vaio Not Recognising Battery

I am servicing a Sony Vaio Laptop (C10FK4MA) running Win 10 64 bit for a friend. It seems to be working fine except that it says, No battery Installed".

1- I have removed the battery and cleaned the contacts.
2- I have installed all the latest drivers and bios from the Vaio update app.
3- I have unplugged and removed the battery and discharged the computer with the power button.
4- I have launched Windows battery diagniostics but it cant help with the error, "no battery inserted". Sony Vaio battery care can't help either.

However the problem persists. Of course it just may be the battery is bad. I don't have a spare to check. If that was the case., I would have expected a warning, "Battery not charging". Is there anything else I can try? Your advice would be appreciated?

    Kind regards

To find out if the battery is charging, remove the PS and see how long it last. If it doesn't hold any charge, remove the battery, A bad battery can damage the internal power supply.

I had a Sony Vaio and to control the battery charge I had to install an application from Sony

Megahertz, thank you for your reply. In my case the laptop says there is "no battery installed", even though it has been installed for days. I suspect that either the battery is bad (zero volts), or the connection between the battery and the mainboard is broken. I have never seen the charging light come on. The laptop instantly goes off in the event of a power failure, which happened yesterday evening. I was wondering if there was a software fix, but somehow I doubt it.

    Kind regards

It seems to be a dead battery.

Sony Vaio's stopped production in 2014. So friends pc is at least 8 years old.

Average battery life expectancy of a laptop is in the five years region (longer nowadays probably). You cannot categorically prove it is old age, but highly likely.

Sure you can replace battery, but your friend should realise the mobo could fail in not too distant future as well (my VAIO did after 6 years), as that is also a function of age. Tell your friend to make sure he regularly backs up all valuable data, including installation codes for things like MS Office.

My backup laptop is only 5 years old, and showing signs of failure (intermittent crashes), and battery is certainly well below par.
I have a nice new one now.

In the end, pcs are like cars - no matter how much you look after them, components age and eventually fail.

    Hi there
If the screen is OK it will work off the mains without a problem.
Note though I don't think Sony VAIO's of that series had any USB 3 pors only USB2. . BTW it's easy to replace the 2.5 inch laptop disk with an SSD - no tools needed oncce you've opened the PC. New one just plugs straight in,

I still use from time to time since mine has a built in DVD drive - It's handy if I need to get stuff from a physical DVD / CD on to my NAS -- including ripping CD's and DVD's, I'm still running W7 on it - might try W10 but I doubt the "Sony" card reader will work on W10.

This place might still have batteries for these PCGxxx models -- UK sourced but no VAT if exported.

    Sony Vaio Produkts- BatteryUpgrade

    Cheers
