    Disabling keyboard

    Hi

Ok so I have an HP Omen laptop but my keyboard is fast wearing out few keys are cracked in half and few others feel like they might not be properly registering when pressed a I see keys like my W key not always popping up the W when pressed.

I can not afford to replace the laptop at the moment so trying to find an alternative. If I bought myself a USB keyboard and used my laptop's keyboard as sort of a desk rather then a keyboard meaning I would put the USB Keyboard on my laptops keyboard I obviously do not want my laptop keyboard to be activating the key as I type or game on the USB keyboard.

So if I do this is there a way to disable the laptops keyboard while having the USB keyboard active to use and lastly if thi is possible is it safe for the laptop or could it cause other issues??

    Just an idea.
After struggling for a while with a couple of laptop keyboards with misbehaving keys, I recently bought replacements [one from an Amazon seller £13, the other from AliExpress £18].
I had already downloaded Dell service manuals for both laptops to guide me through the replacement procedures [one 5 mins, the other 5 hours].
I imagine HP also produce service manuals for their laptop users to download [my HP printer has one - it was in the same HP Support section that I would go to for updated drivers].

    All the best,
    Denis

For the easy one, I had to
    - pull out the battery,
    - undo 2 screws,
    - lift off a loose plastic panel,
    - pull out the old keyboard,
    - put the new one in, put back the panel, do up the 2 screws, put the battery back in.

I appreciate that yours might not be straightforward.

I do not know how you might disable the existing one. It's not a device that can be simply disabled in Device manager like some other devices can.

    All the best,
    Denis
