    Your speeds are going to be limited by the USB port.
    You also need to know what type of SSD you need it for. There is a difference between SATA and NVMe SSDs
    I have this one for NVMe SSDs and it works well:

    Here is own I particularly like;

    Amazon.com

    It is inexpensive, supports SATA or NVMe type drives, uses the Realtek 9210 chipset, is small and compact, and is tool free. It seems that this Realtek chipset has been getting really good reviews.

    I've been replacing my flash drives with NVMe drives so I usually pair one of these up with a cheap NVMe (since connecting to USB I don't need to pay extra for ultimate speed SSD) and this has been working absolutely flawlessly and I'm still getting fantastic performance.

    This is the one that I am using.
    Amazon.com

    To max out this enclosure, you need to connect to a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port (10Gbps) or a USB-C 10Gbps port. However, that port maxes out around ~1200MB/sec. So, you are seriously limiting the potential of that Samsung 980 Pro by running it in an external enclosure. I went with a Crucial P2 1TB drive for my enclosure. I get about 1100MB/sec on that drive. That's still about 1/2 of what it's capable of.

    Just looked at the Sabrent enclosure and its also available in the UK, which is good, does it ever open unexpectedly

    Mine personally has never opened and it's very similar to the Sabrent. Either way, the drive is usually screwed it or secured to the chassis, so even if the lid were to pop open for any reason, it shouldn't impact the drive itself in anyway.

    These enclosures are also a fantastic way to see how much heat a drive generates. This is another reason I would avoid using a Gen 4 NVMe as they are generally warmer. But of course, considering how much that 980 pro will be limited in these enclosures it may not really get much warmer than my Gen 3 drive.

    I too have never had one open on me accidentally.

    Oddly, I find that mine stay really cool even if I copy a couple hundred GB in one transfer. I wonder if that is simply a result of not driving the NVMe as fast as it is capable of.

    mine gets warm...but nothing alarming by any means. But it's a Gen 3 NVMe that it's only capable of around 2400MB/sec read and 1800MB/sec write...and I'm getting about 1100MB/sec total....so not pushing it hard either.

    I just feel like having a drive capable of 7,000MB/sec limited to ~1000MB/sec to be kinda sad.
