How to know if USB3 Port is working in USB 3 speed

When transferring large volume of data, sometime I notice that my USB 3 port seems to go into USB2 mode, and not performing? Restarting the PC fixes it.

I have USB 3 disk and cable connected to the USB 3 ports on my desktop.

How do I know if the USB 3 port has fallen into USB 2 mode? Is there anyway to restart the port without restarting the PC.

    Thanks for any helps.

    Hello ffrree (keyboard stuck ),

    You may find this useful:

Also Crystal Disk Mark app can be used to benchmark drive i/o speeds

CrystalDiskMark Project Top Page - OSDN

I highly recommend Crystal Disk Info app to keep an eye on your drive health and temperature - run it in resident/startup mode so you don't have to remember to run it manually.

It´s normal that transfer speeds vary widely in long operations. What external disk are you using? Is the buffer enabled?

If the Seagate is a mechanical disk it will never be very fast.
    A USB 3.0 has a transfer rate of 4800b/s or 600B/s.
A fast HDD 2.5" will never reach 1200b/s or 150B/s

You may see a very fast transfer rate on the beginning. It is the initial where you transfer to a cache memory on the drive. Once the cache is full, you get the slow disk rate.

There is a very useful utility from NirSoft called USBDView that will show you more information for USB devices than you ever thought possible.
