    Dell BIOS updates

And I thought HP were not serious…

On 16-Dec-2021, I updated the BIOS of my Dell Precision 3560 to version 1.14.3.
The 1.14.3 version was withdrawn after 3 days from the Dell Support site. Since I hadn’t noticed any problem, I decided to keep it.

It turns out, I hadn’t noticed any problem because I hadn’t shut-down the laptop.
On 12-Jan-2022, after a WiFi driver update, I shut down instead of rebooting.
HUGE MISTAKE: The laptop refused to turn on. After several times and different presses to the start button it turned on, with the message 'Time-of-day not set'.
Next day, I spent the entire morning troubleshooting with the Dell Support, to finally get the verdict that I should downgrade the BIOS to version 1.13.0, which I did and resolved the issue.

On 19-Jan-2022 Dell posted an updated BIOS, version 1.15.2. Having gone through all that the previous days, I decided to wait a few days, before updating...what a wise move, this turned to be! I think I'm getting wiser as I grow older, after all!!!

On 20-Jan-2022 Dell posted Article Number 000194762 explaining the issue and recommending to update to the newly released BIOS.
That would have been great, if in the meantime, during the same day, Dell hadn’t withdrawn the new version 1.15.2, without any explanation. It just disappeared from the Support site. Apparently some other poor guy rushed to update and got either the same or a new problem.

Here is today's (21-Jan-2022) screenshot, of the Precision 3560 Support site. The latest BIOS is 1.13.0!!

As I said in the beginning:
If HP were not serious…Dell guys are a joke!!!

I've seen recommendations to not take a BIOS update until it's several months old to avoid this sort of issue.

I don't subscribe to the "never update the BIOS if it's not broken" club. I'm not smart enough to challenge a BIOS engineer and be able to know the update won't improve or make my PC more stable.
