    Strange USB Ports Problem

    Hi everyone,

I'm pulling my hair out over this one, hoping someone can offer some solution. I have a strange problem with my windows
10 ver.21h1 -fully updated. If I unplug my computer and plug it back in my USB ports stop working once windows loads. I have power in the USB ports, but none of my devices function. The usb ports will work if I enter the bios.

Here's where it gets strange. I force windows into repair mode by powering off three times at the logo, then I choose the first option 'restart' . The computer restarts and windows loads, all usb ports work fine. I can restart my computer, I can shut my computer down and windows will load up fine with working USB ports. However, as soon as I unplug my computer again, widows will load up and the USB ports will be non functional again and I have to do the reboot trick again.

If any one has any clue as to what this could be I'd appreciate it. I am hoping to not have to reinstall windows again.

Thanks for reading!! Please share your wisdom

slammin hello and welcome to tenforums ,

What do you mean by unplug your PC? Is the date and time correct in the BIOS?

Hi, thanks for your response. I mean removing the power plug from the computer (moving a desktop to another location). Date and time are correct in the bios.

    Thanks for the reply.

Run "powercfg /h off" to test with hibernation/fast startup disabled also if previous suggestion didn't fix it.

Your pc is old and the motherboard might not be able to fully support Win 10.
Have you checked Device Manager,Reliability History and dxdiag for any flagged entries and/or reports?
What is the PSU power rating and what are the devices plugged into the usb ports?

I have Vista era PC that runs Windows 10 fine.

https://www.asus.com/SupportOnly/P7H...Desk_Download/ they have Windows 8.1 drivers. Good idea to check that you have the latest drivers and BIOS.

Yes! Thank you so much Steve! Looks like the powercfg /h off did the trick. Seems to be loading up the usb ports now. Is that a permanent fix? Any idea why quickstart was omitting the usb ports?
