Yes! Thank you so much Steve! Looks like the powercfg /h off did the trick. Seems to be loading up the usb ports now. Is that a permanent fix? Any idea why quickstart was omitting the usb ports?
Thanks for the reply. It's a permanent fix if the issue doesn't come back. I can't explain it - hibernation is a huge nuisance in many ways with many different symptoms - I just avoid it and it's often one of my first suggestions with certain weird problems.

Your details in your original post were most helpful in leading to my suggestion to test with it disabled

well, whatever the reason, thank you for helping me solve it and replying so quickly. I really appreciate your help. I had no idea that Windows defaults to hibernation and fast startup when shutting down. Maybe it's not compatible with my usb devices/drivers. I did check and windows said they were up to date.

Strange though, that everything had been working fine until two days ago.... I wonder if it was a result of a recent windows update; I uninstalled all that I was able to, but it didn't help. I know there are some updates that you cannot uninstall.

    Anyway, thanks again Steve, cheers!

Hmmm, well in that case you might try turning hibernation back on after future updates if you miss it - "powercfg /h on" will do that.

    This is the latest update: KB5010793 Windows 10 19042.1469, 19043.1469, 19044.1469 (which I didn't install - it's an OOB update).

I highly recommend Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect before installing any CU.

Thanks for hitting the button Glad I was able to relieve your headache
