how do I fix RAID mirror error?

My PC is running slow and I noticed on re-boot that an error is reported on one of my two mirrored HDDs. Since the PC is working, but just slow, should I break the mirror and do a disk error check or what?

I built this system over 12 years ago and don't remember. I will try to find out. I am 78 years old now and my cognitive functions are diminishing. I need all the help I can get.

Your computer specs seams to have two computers.
    Yous should separate the two.

I suppose you're talking about the DQ45CB. Enter BIOS and go to the RAID configuration to see if the array was created under BIOS.

Found out how to fix this myself. Only took me 2 days ---

With the suggestion made that my mirror might be set up in BIOS, I saw on the log-on screen that the RAID configuration was set up under Intel Matrix Storage Manager on ROM. I entered the configuration menu and broke the mirror. The error kept the autorebuild from working and the PC ran as slow as molasses in January.

I did have some trouble trying to fix the errored disk when I attempted to repair it because Windows reported it as a RAW drive. I googled how to convert RAW to NTFS, did that and got things running again, however no longer RAID 1. That's OK for now... I'll create another mirror later.

    Hi,
Why bother with raid at all
It was to combine small disks because large ones were expensive

Now large disks are cheap and plentiful making raid silly to use.

    Raid

It depends on what your objective is. I have about 10 years of personal data stored on my PC. I chose RAID to protect my data with the redundancy of that data, which is exactly what happened. My UPS suffered an internal failure, shutting down the PC suddenly and caused an error on one disk, slowing it down. My original data is preserved, which is what I sought.

    Raid is not a backup
    System images are.

Disks normally don't get to RAW state. Something went wrong.
Use Crystal disk info for SMART diagnostic

For a complete disk test and diagnostic:
    Use WD Diagnostic tool
    or
    Seagate Seatools
