Bluetooth stuffed, how to install older Windows driver?

I did a fresh install of Windows 10 after getting a new SSD.

While Bluetooth was not perfect, it was acceptable on my old installation. Now it's completely stuffed. I reverted to installing the old SSD and checking all my drivers, to find that the Bluetooth drivers installed for my Bluetooth headphones have a bigger number (I assume newer) on the fresh installation.

Old version: Provider = Microsoft, Version = 10.0.19041.1202
New version: Provider = Microsoft, Version = 10.0.19041.1387

At first I would pair, however sound would only come through as (hands free) and it has the bitrate of an abacus. When it did connect properly (says "music" as well in the Bluetooth settings) it also caused sound to completely drop out when I tried using it to play a game, switching between mic only and sound only. Now it pairs, but often refuses to connect at all. Sometimes it connects, only for it to not provide sound at all, and dropping out shortly after anyway. The degradation between old and fresh is astounding.

I even just had my WiFi refuse to work and had to restart my laptop. I don't know if it's related, but it's overall been a worse experience since I went the fresh install.

So now I would like to install the old driver and see if that makes a difference, but I have no idea how to get it. It's just a generic Windows update type number, and even though I backed up all my drivers (with DISM) from my old install, I have no idea what's what, if even any of them would be it.

If anyone knows how to extract/pinpoint the driver from my old installation, and how to force it on this one, that would be fantastic.

Hi, as you still have the SSD for your old installation you can
    a. Use a 3rd party tool to back up and restore drivers
5 Tools to Backup and Restore your Windows Drivers • Raymond.CC

    or

    b. Search the Tutorial section here for 'back up drivers' and find
Backup and Restore Device Drivers in Windows 10

You may then find you need to protect that driver. Again the tutorial section can help you.

Another possible option is to download the appropriate driver for your laptop from the manfacturer, if available, and if your laptop is supported for Win 10.

Is your older installation also an older Windows build?

Your laptop ASUS G70JW seems to be from around 2013.
As such, running Win 10 is at your risk.

Thank you, one of those third party programs should help me identify the specific driver and potentially force install it.

I have been through the tutorial, which I used to backup in the first place, but it doesn't provide the means to install an older driver as far as I can tell. I'll have another look though.

I shall check the manufacturer website. Given my past experiences I subconsciously wrote it off without even considering the possibility lol.

Windows 7 originally. I wouldn't call it a risk though, considering it has proven itself on Windows 10 for probably 5 years with no problems. I'd say running a legacy OS is a bigger risk.

Thank you for your reply, I'll report back.

Thanks - a risk in that you might encounter incompatibility or unexpected technical issues.

For example, a few find they have no latency issues- upgrade the build- they suddenly have one (affecting sound).

Options 3,4,5 are about installing drivers. But I've not used it myself.
A 3rd party tool can be more convenient.
