Stuck in bootloop after deleting hpdskflt.sys

I've started having a lot of BSODs lately on my HP Omen 15, running windows 10, and I've pinpointed the culprit to be hpdskflt.sys. I've researched online and found out it's HP's bloatware that protects HDDs from being damaged (I have an SSD...), I've uninstalled those programs long ago but the driver filed was left probably. Harmless I thought, I'd just delete it.

The file was used by windows related programs so in my inexperience I just assumed that it's probably normal for driver files to be used by the OS.

I deleted the files in safe mode, restarted and saw "preparing to install updates". My heart sunk when the loading animation froze, restarted, safe mode, stuck. recovery options, recovery point, failed. I didn't Shift-delete the files, so I figured if I could access the recycle bin I could restore the files...

Using the command prompt from recovery options I managed to navigate to c:\$recycle.bin but I got "File Not Found". I ran some other commands suggested by guides/sites I found about restoring stuff but nothing worked. I can't provide the windows version number because I can't boot it :)

I'm not too attached to the data on the laptop, I'll probably go buy a flash drive soon enough and do a factory reset, but I thought I'd swing by first and ask for advice :)

This why you need a backup to recover from such situations.

I also have a HP laptop having the hpdskflt.sys driver which is pointless if you have a SSD. If you look in Device Manager you will see hpdskflt.sys is a driver associated with every disk drive. You first need to search the registry and remove all instances of hpdskflt.sys where it sets a disk filter. In my case it is at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -> UpperFilters and LowerFilters.

I was then able to safely delete the driver but you could just disable it in Autoruns. I had to leave the HP Mobile Protection Sensor in Device Manger since it just reinstalls if you delete it.

What were the steps that had been made in safe mode?

Where they through device manager or by another method?

Perform a system restore or restore a backup image.
    System Restore Windows 10
Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

If neither of the above are available then reset save files or custom install.
    Reset Windows 10
    Custom Install Windows 10
