I did find it easy following the steps on the video you posted except the themes.

Thanks for the update. Yeah, themes would be an extra optional unnecessary distraction at this point. Were you able to boot from the USB?

Update us on the data recovery effort when you have some time to report progress.

Is Linux Mint able to mount your healthy boot drive? I noticed F: was RAW earlier in your now deleted screenshot and isn't any longer (IIRC). I suspect the inability to mount has to do with the ill state of the drive as I was able to mount all my working drives from Linux when I booted from Ventoy.

Is Windows able to access the files in G:? I assume it can't access F: still.

HD Sentinel also shows a ?? for F: capacity.

I'm not familiar with data recovery in a situation like this ...... maybe someone else has ideas.

Were you able to get themes to work in Ventoy? It took me bit of futzing around to get thems to work when I tried a few days ago - wasn't exactly straightforward for me.

I noticed F: was RAW... Yrs in Disk Management screenshot it can be seen as RAW
Is Windows able to access the files in G:? Only one file as screenshot below taken yesterday on another pc named as Drive I:

HD Sentinel also shows a ?? for F: capacity. F: is the Windows and data partition which can't be read.
Were you able to get themes to work in Ventoy? No I won't be messing with that.
    Thank you for your help.

    scopio,

Thanks for the update and a pleasure to try and assist.

I found this video How to Convert RAW Hard Drive to NTFS Without Losing Data - YouTube See what you think about trying it. Again, I'm no data recovery expert, but if you don't receive any other suggestions, you may want to try it.

    Hi @scopio

    1. Contact HP Customer Support with the HDD Failure ID and check what the error code means and what they say. ( No information on the web about this failure ID QFKT99-86LBOE-MFPX6J-6OR803)

    2. My observation: The Surface Test reveals the first block itself is bad. Not a good sign.

    3. Please do check with Live Linux . ( I do not know about Ventoy and so would not enter into the Rufus vs Ventoy debate. I had used Rufus. Now of course I do not use anything but my rusted brains - retired ) On my part I would recommend you to go through my guide here on using Lucid Puppy. If you so desire you can use it. Lucid Puppy way to recover files from a non-bootable computer - Windows 10 Forums ( You can apply this to the failed HDD in the external enclosure. You have to mount this HDD and check whether you can recover any data.)

    4. Since you ran checkdisk, I presume that you can see the HDD in Windows Explorer. Please post a full screenshot of Windows Disk Management with only the faulty external HDD plugged in. (To be focussed on it and avoid clutter, remove all other plugged in external storage devices.). Guidelines here:
How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management
Also post a screenshot of how this external HDD looks like in MiniTool Partition Wizard - the very first screen that appears when you launch it. Let me assess the situation.

    5. Also install the Trial version of Hard Disk Sentinel and post the screenshot showing the external HDD's health- the very first screen and any error message that may or may not appear. Hard Disk Sentinel Trial version - HDD health and temperature monitoring

I think your hands are full now but my hands aren't till I get all the above information ( Also specify the make/ Model No and capacity of the HDD)

Have a good day . Your day starts now.
    @jumanji
Thanks for your suggestion. I have created the USB as instructed and Lucid Puppy boots but the mouse is disabled! Cannot navigate to mount!

@steve108 Strange disk management shows F: as RAW but Minitool shows it as NTFS! Diskpart does not show it at all.

I'm quite certain that F: is still RAW based on your factual evidence. I'd try the video if you don't get better suggestions.

I copied the Puppy ISO from jumaji link to my GPT Ventoy USB, but it won't boot because it's not UEFI (I made my Ventoy USB GPT because I want to boot with secure boot/UEFI enabled - it works for other distros I tried).

My thinking is Linux is Linux and if Mint can't mount the failed drive, no other flavors of Linux will (assuming you don't "fix" the drive first) - but any success otherwise to prove me wrong would be great.

If you do end up trying the video to fix F: , try to see if you can access the F: drive/copy files out of it using Windows before going to Linux - just so we know if that was a factor or not.

I am now running Linux Mint from Ventoy. In case the OP wants to take a screenshot on Mint, click on the "Menu" button in the bottom left-hand corner, select "Accessories" under "All Applications", and then click on "Screenshot" in the right column. The following is a screenshot of "Computer":

The Ventoy USB device cannot be mounted when Mint is running from it.

Is it worthwhile to try Windows PE?
