    Drive caddy HDDs not appearing

    Hi all,

When I plug my Dynamode drive caddy into my laptop (Lenovo Ideapad 5), the HDD which I've mounted powers on and runs as normal, but it doesn't appear in either File Explorer or Disk Management. The HDD itself is good, however to be certain, I also tried my spare HDD and also my partner's. The same thing happens with both of those too. My USB ports are fine, so it's not those.

At this point, I have a feeling it's the caddy's USB cable which is to blame, but I'd appreciate any other suggestions.

    Cheers.

    Welcome to TenForums!

I'm not familiar with the Dynamode caddy specifically so I can't comment on it directly. However, could you tell me if the drives in these caddies are brand new? If so, is it possible that the drives are simply not initialized yet or that a drive letter has not been assigned to them yet?

If you open Disk Management, do the drives show up there?

Also, what type of drives are we talking about? Are these 2.5-inch laptop drives or 3.5-inch desktop drives? If using desktop drives, are the drive enclosures plugged into any external power (needed to supply power to desktop drives)?

Thanks for the welcome and your response.

The drives (2.5 inch; laptop) aren't new, but I know they're all serviceable. One was in use at the time the problem occurred and the other two were fine last time they were used. None of them show up in Disk Management.

I should add that, due to a lack of space where my laptop is set up, I had to position the caddy behind it and bend the caddy's cable around to reach it. I think this has potentially, over an extended period of time, damaged the cable.

I've ordered a replacement caddy which should arrive tomorrow, so I'll see if that works.

Very good. I would be curious to see if the cable that comes with the new caddy will work with the old caddy as well.

Let me know what happens .
