4 way USB 2 internal hub malfunction?

    WINVER: 2004 build: 19041.1165

4 way USB 2 internal hub malfunction?

My MOBO has just ONE USB 2 hub, so I connected a powered 4 way splitter/extender in to it, to power my smart card reader, blue tooth card & 2 external front facing case USB 2 sockets.

Well, I don;t know about the 2 front sockets(?), but the blue tooth adapter and smart card reader do not function or appear in the device manager?

Does anyone have a way to sort this out please?

NB: If I plug either of them straight into the MOBO USB 2 hub directly they both work fine! (i.e. without the splitter/expander).

Splitting power used for 1 USB port and trying to share it with 4 devices will mean there is not enough power for all the devices to get recognized by the computer,
Or the device is not compatible with your motherboard.

The device is powered by the PSU, it has it's own power cable (i.e. self powered), SEE ABOVE PIC. Does that mean that it isn't compatible with my mobo?

I have had these things in the past in an external version in it's own case and neither of my external hubs functioned correctly either, therefore do ANY of these splitters/multipliers actually work at all? (either powered or unpowered)?
    Cheers!

I have never used one, and I don't know anyone that has, so I can't tell you. But if you used it on 2 motherboards and external hubs didn't work on both, then it's a clear sign this isn't working for you.

Have you already used the USB 3.0 port on the motherboard ?

I use PCIe X1 and X4 Add-in cards to gain additional USB 3 ports or to gain USB 3 ports where none exist. There are also some available for the older PCI slots. Some examples:

While USB is a beautiful thing I tend to keep it with as less hubs than I can. And never even tried to stack them.

OK, so I got rid of the earlier internal USB hub and replaced it with this unit:
NZXT Internal USB 2.0 Expansion Hub (Gen 3):

    ...and it works!
