Laptop with a 3 y/old i5-8259U. How many years can it still be fast?

I got a good deal at Amazon's Black Friday, the usual price is 600€ and this one was 440€. I just checked it was an i5 with 8GB RAM and got it right away. The laptop and cpu are new, it's just a 3 years old i5 model.

But I'm noticing it to stutter and lag a bit, meaning it's really worse than my previous Ryzen 5 2500U with 12GB RAM, when the comparisons of the cpus I read online said the i5 is way better in theory but in practice it isn't at all. I used the 2500U for 2 years and it was wonderfully fast without any stuttering or lagging.

So I still can return it to Amazon, what can I expect from this processor 3 years old with no chance to add more RAM as it's welded limited to 8GB.

    Thanks.

If there’s more to your post then the font colour needs changing from light grey as it cannot be read.

Oops sorry I'm using a dark background theme called Dark Reader extension and it seems to be imperfect.

I recently bought a small Bee-link mini PC, model SEI-8 that has the i5-8279u CPU. (So same as the 8259u, except it goes to 4.1Ghz while the 8259u goes to 3.8Ghz).

I use this for my Windows 11 test machine and honestly i've experienced no problems whatsoever with it's power and performance. It's a Coffee Lake processor as is from 2019...so not really all that old.

The Intel i5-8259u should outperform the Ryzen5, 2500u.

When you see stutters, what are you doing?

Have you checked for any Windows &/or driver updates?
    Tbh I would return it.

Not much but I usually have two browsers open with many tabs each and maybe I'm dowloading something on uTorrent or so. Not a big deal at all and I see the 8GB RAM like at 90% usage easily. I just do totally low profile home usage just with two browsers and many tabs.

When I bought my Beelink, it had 16GB of RAM (2 x 8GB sticks), but that particular unit was blue-screeing left and right. Both on the original load from the mfg, and on my formats and reinstalls...so it was clearly a hardware issue.

When I returned it, for a replacement, my new model still had 16GB of RAM, but it was 1 x 16GB stick. Since I preferred having dual channel memory, I picked up another 16GB stick for $59 from Amazon and slapped it in. So, I am running with 32GB of RAM. It's certainly more RAM than this unit needed, but for $59, it was worth it to me to have extra headroom for running a VM or multiple containers, and to be running in dual channel mode.

Is 500euros your limit or could you go a little higher?
I would concentrate on RAM which you can upgrade & a decent processor speed. A PC with a HDD will be cheaper than one with a SSD.

Why can't you thank every post when somebody is helping you? It says I have to wait to thank you again... sorry.

500€ is my limit, yes, my usage is very home/modest and I truly don't want to spend more than that, but I'll check Amazon again. This one has a great screen, keyboard with light, I'm very happy in general, just worried about the stuttering from day 1 what can become in a near future.

And unfirtunately it can't take more than 8GB RAM, so... I already checked to buy 8 more but it's impossible.

The SSD is a M.2 quite poor, from a bad chinese brand TECLAST which is the same as the laptop. Teclast Tbolt 20 Pro is called and they put their own SSD M.2 that has low performance on CrystalDisk test, 400MB write speed. I have another SSD M.2 from my old laptop which is way better, a Kingston A200 that writes much faster at 2000 MB/s but if I open it to replace it I might lose the warranty.

I just realized that the stuttering mostly happens when scrolling the web pages, by the way.

You need at least a Intel Core i5 8250U to have something loosely similar to your Ryzen.

If you just got the machine and it's running like that... Don't hesitate to try a Fresh install before returning it....

Sometimes these installations are restored with crappy source images. And are far from a clean install.
