    CCleaner Driver Updater

I scanned for new drivers for my Dell laptop using the CCleaner driver update function. Various updated drivers are found but there is no sign of the recommended drivers via Windows Update, via Dell's web site or via a Google search of trusted sites.

Where does CCleaner get its information from and why doesn't Windows Update find newer drivers if they exist?

This is yet another example of a program whose authors think... "it needs just a bit more".

    It doesn't, they can't, you shouldn't.

If you're about to take the plunge.

Make an image of your disk.

Often laptops will require OEM Drivers for:

    Sound Cards
    Video Cards
    Pointing devices

Eg: On my poor Dell laptop:

What automatic drivers updaters doesn't know...

Anything beyond 2016 on the Realtek audio results in loss of functionality and performance...
Anything else than the "original" Synaptic touchpad Driver from Dell... is out of question. Nothing works.
Anything else than the original USB Drivers simply bring pain in the....
Anything else than the Intel provided Intel WIFI / BT Driver does not work well at all.
All the rest are left to Windows to manage.

Mileage may vary a lot, Some installations will work flawlessly others will crash completely.

If it´s working good why take the chance of ruin it by change it?

I've no intention of using anything but drivers from Dell or Windows Update but was intrigued why CCleaner designers consider they know better.

I'm guessing that's the paid version of CCleaner?
If so, then that's why they "think they know better". Another tool in the program... they can sell to more people.'

On top of everything else... since most people are too lazy to update their drivers manually.... whoever does come up with a driver updater that actually works... they will be rich.

I'm using the free version which scans and finds driver updates but does not install them.

They don't.. they just offer the latest drivers from chip / part manufacturer, and some manufacturers that are known to often release new drivers.

    You can check manually here:

    station-drivers

This was a bit helpful in the days when drivers wasn't offered via Windows Update system, or if you had a device that wasn't properly supported. Doesn't make much sense these days

Ah, OK. I'm on version 5.78, they must have added that to a later version.
    I see that they did.

In business environment, I've yet to see a Microsoft provided installation not to work...

But at home, I've yet to see one giving full potential without "at least some" Big Drivers Changes...
