I haven't caught up with USB-C tech just yet since most of my stuff is still on micro. I was reading my Omen 15 specs and I noticed the USB-C also carries DP 1.4?
I know my USB-C is not Thunderbolt 3 so based on the specs (in theory) what I want to confirm is if I bought something like this, will it work?
(Note: I am aware of the Mini DP available but I just want to confirm hardware compatibility.)

Yes, that should work. You already noted that your system states that the USB-C port will do DP 1.4. Note that not every USB-C port has this capability. In order to carry a DP video signal a USB-C port must support "DP Alt Mode".

Thanks mate. Reason I asked is the adapter is sold on CableChick which is the link you aptly posted. I was suprised to know my Omen 15 supported DP over USB-C. Before I thought they exclusively had to be Thunderbolt to do that. A friend just bought a brand new ROG Zephyrus G15 that didn't come with a DP/MiniDP port so that's what got me curious. :)
Yep, you don't always need thunderbolt. USB-C can be amazingly versatile but sometimes it's a pain in the kiester knowing which capabilities any given port has unless you have access to all the specs of a system
