What is the make and full model of the printer
Will it print a test page in colour
Are the colour cartridges shown on ink levels as OK
Depending on what you are using to print - the print in greyscale appears as shown on the screenshot OR of course in printer properties and settings

Do you use the print cmd on windows 10 as shown in my screenshot and is colour checked on there
On the print window shown in my screenshot click
More setttings and then click print using system dialogue
and a new window should open showing your printer as the selected model
then click preferences and another window should open showing printer properies with ink levels OR a click to shown these
and the print in greyscale OR colour
    As in your user manual
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04778353.pdf

OR if you have the HP software installed rather than merely the driver then you can access the controls from there
either control panel = devices and printers
right click your printer icon for the HP and then click preferences

    OR settings
    devices
    printers and scanners
double click your entry for the HP
    and then click manage
    and then
    printing preferences.

Please refer to the online user manual I have linked to

Test page is accessed from the printer menu screen - on the actual printer
OR from settings as described above.

OR if you are struggling with following any of these approaches run the HP rpint and scan Doctor

    and then click manage
    and then
printing preferences. >>>> "manage" is not there

I finally printed out a test page, but not surprised to find it was b/w as if it does not print a coloured text doc, why would it do it on a test page.

I used the PRINT & SCAN DOCTOR

Presuming your printer is not connected to the computer by USB but is connected wireless

    Try this
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/di...k-not-printing

OR if you can follow it try this
    Method:

    Create a TCP/IP port
    1. Open Printer Properties:
    a. Click the Windows search icon, type ‘Printers’ and then open the Printers & Scanners or Devices & Printers settings.
    b. Select your printer and click Manage. If there is no Manage option, right-click the printer.
    c. Click Printer properties.
    d. Click the Ports tab.

    2. If the selected port is not a TCP/IP port, we need to create one.

    3. Click the General tab and copy the IP address in the Location field. The IP address is the series of 4 numbers separated by dots, after ‘http://’ and before the ‘:’.
    4. b. Return to the Ports tab, and click Add Port.

    c. Select Standard TCP/IP Port, and then click New Port.
    d. In the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard, click Next.
    e. Enter the IP address which you copied earlier and a name for the port, and then click Next.
    f. Click Finish to close the wizard.
    g. Select the new port, click Apply, and close the Printer Properties dialog.

    5. Finish setting printer preferences:
    a. Click the Windows search icon, type ‘Printers’ and then open the Printers & Scanners or Devices & Printers settings again. There will be two icons for your printer.
    b. Select one of the icons for your printer and click Manage. If there is no Manage option, right-click the icon. If you see Printer Properties, click it. If you see Scan Properties, click the back arrow, open the other printer, and click Printer Properties.
    c. Click the Device Settings tab.
    d. Change “Automatic Configuration” to “Update Now”. It will revert to ‘Off’, but ignore this and click Apply. Close the Printer properties dialog.
    e. In the application you want to print from, click Print, and then Printer Properties. On the Paper/Quality tab, select Color and click OK.

    6. Try printing again.

Firstly, let me thank you for a long detail suggestion to solve problem, it is appreciated.

Second, although you may not believe, I am quite computer literate, but like lots, the odd problem does happen now and then.

I do find, that when kind people like yourself quote do this or that, the options dont always appear as written by your goodself.

That virtual assistant was no good, but now your suggestion.

do you mean the search window in the property tab as I am still in properties which I have opened

How is the envy connected to the computer

    USB or wireless

Looking at your sceenshot I presume it is wireless
I do not think the problem is the configuration for it to use the WSD port
    Web Services for devices

That if it was a problem usually results in the printer being shown as offline.

Can we go back to my post I made very early on in the thread.

How do you configure a print demand

If you use the Edge Browser when you click print on there from the three dots on the top right of the screen and the PRINT window opens - on the left hand pane if you scroll down you will see
    the entry
    COLOUR
and on the drop arrow you can configure it for colour or black and white

    =================
If that does not help then whilst I do not think it is the WSD setting I suggest you follow this
    https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printe...t/td-p/8021761

not your printer but the principle is the same.
