    Keyboard not always working

I am using a USB keyboard running Windows 10 and sometimes I find when I type in various apps including Excell and Word nothing happens when I press the keys, I have disconnected and reconnected the keyboard which makes no difference.
The only way it seems to come back to life is when I type a few characters in Firefox Google search I can then go back to whatever I was trying to type in okay.
My Firefox is uptodate 94.0.1 It appears to be getting worse and is very annoying especially if say I am buying something online and get to fill in details...nothing, until go through procedure of typing in Google search.

    Hello @Richchad,

    To exclude things first . . .

[1] Have you tried a different Keyboard?
[2] Have you got a System Restore Point PRIOR to this happening that you could try?
[3] Have you tried turning the Keyboard upside down and shaking it, sometimes bits can fall inside and cause intermittent malfunctioning?
[4] Did you install ANY WU's PRIOR to this happening?
[5] Did you install ANY Software or ANY Software Updates PRIOR to this happening?
    [6] Have you run SFC? . . .

     SFC

    IMPORTANT:

    • It is recommended when running SFC that Fast Startup is turned OFF [ Turn it back ON when finished ] => How to Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

    • If SFC finds any ERRORS that it can NOT repair, run SFC again upto 3 more times, Restarting after each to allow any pending actions to be implemented.

    • DISM will initially try and Repair ANY Corrupted or Missing files using the Component Store.
If this is NOT possible, DISM will use Windows Update. Therefore, Internet access is required.
If you are NOT connected to the Internet, you will receive a Error: 0x800f081f.

[1] Press the Win + X keys together > Command Prompt (Admin).
    [2] Type the command below . . .

    Code:

    sfc /scannow

    [3] Press Enter.

SFC Error Report - Do this ONLY if there are ERRORS

[1] Press the Win + X keys together > Command Prompt (Admin).
    [2] Highlight the command below . . .

    Code:

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log > "%UserProfile%\Desktop\SFC_Details.log"

    NOTE:

If you have a Relocated Desktop, then change the %UserProfile% part of the Command below to the actual path of the Relocated Desktop folder.

[3] Press the Ctrl + C keys together.
[4] Right-click inside the Administrator: Command Prompt Window > Paste.
    [5] Press Enter.

    • This will create a SFC_Details.log file on the Desktop.

    EITHER:

Copy & Paste the results into your post using the [CODE] tags . . .

[1] Open the SFC_Details.log file in Notepad.
[2] Press the Ctrl + A keys together.
[3] Press the Ctrl + C keys together.
[4] In your post, click the Hashtag icon #.
[5] Click INSIDE the [CODE]Here[CODE] tags and press the Ctrl + V keys together.

    • In your post it will look like this . . .

    Code:

    <<< Results Here >>>

    OR:

UPLOAD the file => How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums.

    I hope this helps.

    @Paul,
Sorry about the delay in coming back here, the answer to your questions are..

I haven’t got another keyboard to try but pretty certain not a keyboard fault.
Reluctant to try System restore as will screw up changes made since last restore.
    I don’t know what you mean “Have I installed any WU’s” ?
I don’t think I have installed any software or updates since problem.
I hadn’t run SFC but did so after your reply and found it repaired some corrupted files.

I tried to get the error report to my desktop but couldn’t not sure what I was doing wrong.
However since this I haven’t had a problem with the keyboard not working.
So hopefully this repair has fixed it, I guess time will tell if this is so,

Thank you for your suggestions and I appreciate your help with this.

    Sorry, that means Windows Updates.

That is good news, obviously, if the problem reappears, then please post back.

    You are VERY welcome.
