Update keeps installing the Driver for Realtek Semiconductor Corp.

About every day, Windows Update tells me that it wants to install the driver for
Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Extension 10.0.17134.1

No error seems to be indicated, the install seems to always work, yet if it actually worked, then it should not be asking me every day, right?

Check out the attached screen shot where Windows Update claims to have installed the driver.

Any ideas how to fix this?

A web search indicates that others have seen this issue too.

My profile is up to date, so view that to see my System Spec etc. My Windows 10 Pro for Workstations was clean installed about 2 months ago and is fully patched with all normal Microsoft updates to it (nothing experimental).

I think the driver in question is for the USB 2 ports. You might want to visit the Dell Driver Download page and enter your service tag to find the specific driver for your model. Then download it and try installing it. Sometimes the MS driver updates don’t work exactly right. I’ve started using WuMgr to stop Windows from automatically installing driver updates, I prefer to use Dell’s drivers specific to my model.

I agree that you should do that.
    - By installing & updating all the drivers Dell provides for your Dell Service tag, you will establish a firm baseline for investigating this fault even if it survives the driver updating.
    - By not installing & updating all the drivers Dell provides for your Dell Service tag, there is always the doubt that any odd behaviour might be driver related.
    - Using your Dell Service tag is essential. It uniquely identifies your [as-delivered] hardware configuration to Dell's website so it can retrieve the correct driver lists.

If there are lots of driver installations or updates to do, I follow Dell's advice about the sequence to follow [even though I am not convinced about it].
How to reinstall drivers in the correct order - Dell
Note that the details pages for individual updates in Dell Drivers & downloads lists each have an assigned category so you know where they fit in to their recommended sequence.

Do work your way through all your hardware in case it's something unexpected causing the current problem - I keep wondering if the Bios or even the chipset is at the root of it. You might find that installing Dell's Support assistant is the easiest way to do the whole lot [even if you then remove it when the job is done].
Dell's Support assistant is also listed in Dell Drivers & downloads.

By the way, it's worth checking this every so often

    Guys, thanks for your responses.

I should have mentioned when I did a Windows 10 clean install a couple of months ago that soon after I installed Windows, I installed all the drivers etc for my 7530.

I was told by a Dell tech support agent that this is the order to do this :
    1. run Windows Update and install everything that it suggests
    2. download and install Dell SupportAssist or Dell Command Update, run it, install all drivers etc suggested

I followed their advice. I actually installed an ran both Dell SupportAssist and Dell Command Update. They pulled down drivers that Windows Update did not suggest. I do not remember if Realtek was one of them.

That Realtek driver, by the way, does not seem to be related to my USB functionality at all. Instead, in Device Manager, it is the driver for my Microphone and Speakers.

I still suggest that you go to the Dell Drivers & downloads section, put in your Dell Service Tag then see what RealTek audio driver version it currently provides so you can compare it to your installed one in Device manager, Sound video and game controllers.
And check the Bios while you are there.

    All the best,
    Denis
