The easiest way to do it, is through the GUI in Windows. Select all the files you want to transfer and drag them to the 4 TB drive. Or Copy and Paste.
Of course, if you like the Command Prompt, you can use Robocopy ROBOCOPY - Create Backup Script | Tutorials The instructions are for 7 but are exactly the same for 10
    Hi spunk,

I only use "copy&paste" moving a few directories and files in both Win and Linux environments, not to dump a complete HD to another HD. There are hundreds of files and directories involved.

Anyway thanks again for your advice and time spent helping me.

I copy and paste one 2 TB drive to another 2 TB , with thousands of folders and files, every few months and it transfers fine. I use an app called Teracopy which assists in this process. It's the easiest for me, but if you like the Command Prompt, use Robocopy / X Copy.

I'm interested learning how to transfer all data files in Storage-HD#1 to the new 4TB HD, say Storage-HD#2, NTFS format, on Win10 running Command Prompt.
xcopy should do the trick. To copy the contents of d:\ to e:\
    Code:
    xcopy "d:\" "e:\" /cheriky

    I suppose

    "d:" = "d:\path\to\storage-drive"

    "e:" = "e:\path\to\4TB-HD"

    What is /cheriky ?
"xcopy /?" will show you usage including all the options.

    Now I'm running Win10

    I only found /compress there.

In Command Prompt, what are the equivalent commands for | (pipe) and grep (the Linux commands)?

    Hi all,

Problem encountered in formatting an old 2TB WD HDD running Diskpart

There is only 2 drives in this PC:

    Drive-1 500G SSD running Windows 10

    Drive-2 2TB WD HDD

    On Command Prompt start Diskpart

Steps performed pls see Screenshot_format_2tbdisk_700 attached

After having running about 4 hours, it is still 63% completed. The red light of PC is still on. Then I have to reboot Windows 10.

After booting up the old 2TB WD HDD is found on "Disk Management"

    Please see attached screenshot.

Please advise what mistake I have committed. Thanks

    Regards

You did not quick format the 4 TB drive, that is why it takes that long.

That is an old 4TB HDD, not a new 4TH HDD. I didn't add "quick" to the command line
