SSD question

I was told SSD drives will speed boot up times but do little or nothing for gaming improvement re data flow. Is this correct?

A SSD improves performance with more than just reduced boot times. Any disk intensive apps will perform better.

An SSD will have the same impact on a game that it has on booting your OS, or running any other app of an SSD. Things will be faster. Typically, when playing online games with my friends, I can boot, and launch the game faster, but since it's an online game I end up having to just sit and wait for them to get get there anyway. So, maybe the benefit of booting/launching faster is just a moot point for many, as once you are into the game, there is little to no benefit.

The general things with games is that they are huge and will eat up space very quickly. And since SSD space is much more costly than standard HDD space, it's up to you whether it's worth storing the games on the SSD.

Like Sygnus21, I too only have NVMe's or SSD's in my boxes. My son (who games a ton more than I), keeps an 8TB spinner in his rig and he moves games he's not actively playing from his NVMe drives to the HDD to keep space free on the NVMe drives. But anything he is actively playing goes back onto the NVMe as it's much faster.

Confusing "terminology". NVMe´s are also SSDs.

NVMe's are also SSD's, but compared to SATA based SSD's they are also substantially faster riding on the PCIe bus. So, I will usually refer to them as either NVMe, m2 based Sata or just SSD.
