old sticky mess making keyboard nearly unuseable

    Hello,
Several months ago someone spilled a very sticky substance on the keyboard and monitor of a little Lenovo that's used by a few people. I found the mess and cleaned up as well as I was able. Later I removed some of the keys & cleaned under them, but damaged them in the process. As time passes the "bad" keys get increasingly sticky - even the ones I cleaned. What can I do to restore full keyboard functionality w/o damaging it?

Depending on the damage - either buy replacement keys, if you can find them, as you can for some laptops or a new keyboard

    Or use an external keyboard
OR use the easy access keyboard

This link is NOT a purchase suggestion only to give you an idea of replacement

Thank you for the reply. The Lenovo in question is not the one in my profile - it's a bottom-of-the-line laptop that the owner doesn't want to put a lot of money into, which was why I tried to clean the keys myself. I did call the local Best Buy (at the owner's direction) to see if they could replace the keyboard, but you know how it is with big corporations - they centralize everything so I didn't get to talk to anybody local, nor was I given any idea of whether they could swap out the keyboard or how much it would cost unless I made an appt to go to the local store and speak to someone, which is ridiculous. Meanwhile, I've taken to bringing my own external keyboard on the days I'm there - or my own laptop, on which I can do most of the tasks.

The on screen keyboard really isn't an option as the manner in which the laptop is used is less point & click, and more writing. Since I've already been down the road of removing & cleaning under some of the keys, what I was hoping for was some kind of solvent I could spray that would clean without damaging the circuitry.

I would call these people, and ask them.

What is the Model # of the Lenovo Laptop?
You can buy a replacement keyboard on Ebay.
Go to YouTube type in the model# with the words replace keyboard for a video showing you how.

I have already suggested replacing keyboard - with link to approx cost
Apparently owner does not wish to spend money on the system and the thread starter appears unable to undertake such a job, or perhaps unwilling to take the risk on a laptop that is NOT his

    I
did call the local Best Buy (at the owner's direction) to see if they could replace the keyboard,

Funny you should ask abt the model #, as just yesterday I spent a bit of time on this issue. It turns out the laptop is refurbished, and the model # on the bottom "Lenovo 14w" (not very descriptive and VERY hard to see - little letters, black on black) - did NOT match the model number found via cmd prompt (I don't have the command I used here).

In any event, the person who purchased the laptop (finally) looked into this after months of procrastination, and found that the keyboard is integrated and cannot be replaced.

The solution arrived at was to purchase an external keyboard and it's on its way.

    Thank you to all responders.

The OP has made their choice, if they decide to have the laptop repaired The palm rest including the keyboard are replaceable and the part can be purchased on Ebay.
It is not easy, but if you consult the laptop manual on page #49 for how
