re: trying to disable the internal touchpad

This is on a Toshiba laptop model Satellite L455, OS Win 10 Home 32bit. The manual says to hold down the FN key and press F9 to disable the internal touch pad. It isn't working. I went into Win 10 settings > devices > touchpad. There is no on/off switch in the right hand panel. I tried installing the touchpad driver. Still no go, I still can't disable the touchpad. What should I try next?

My wife uses a Toshiba C55 Notebook that uses the Fn+F5 key to disable hers. The F5 key has a symbol on it that resembles the shape of the touch pad. Her thumbs tend to get in the way so she turns the touchpad off and uses a wireless mouse. I have seen a few Notebooks with a slide switch on the right edge of the case to control the touchpad. I also have an old Toshiba M45 [still has WinXP] that uses the F9 key.

    Hello Steve,

In addition, you could see if one of the options in the tutorial below may allow you to disable the touchpad.

Is the Touchpad section showing only basic settings - no gestures etc?If yes try installing the Microsoft precision touchpad driver:How to install Precision Touchpad Drivers on Windows 10 This will add extra touchpad options under Settings>Devices>Touchpad.

FN / F9 keys work the other way around sometimes. It depends how it is set. I always set my machine to use F keys when pressed, not the associated media or other option, I used FN + F keys for those. Try without FN.

On my Toshiba FN plus F5 controls the switching of the screens (internal, external and dual). The touch pad icon is under the F9.

BINGO, I got it. Option 4 in the link below did the trick. Thanks for the help.

    reble,

Did you have a posting problem? There is no comment from you in the - - - Updated - - - bit. Had you, perhaps, intended to say that Brink's procedure solved the problem?
